A Note From the Headmaster

What makes Glendale Prep so wonderful is we are a team. Every faculty member, staff, nurse, college counselor, coach, and parent volunteer are part of a team; we are laboring together and striving for the same goal- to provide an inspiring environment for the next generation to learn and mature and thrive. I was reminded in my first week as Headmaster that our team is truly special, seeing so many moving parts all working for the good of our students. So much work is carried out by our leadership team, who all teach themselves, while also taking on specific responsibilities. It is important to inform you regarding some recent changes to our leadership team.Ms. Erin Hudson and Mr. Joseph Mahar are Assistant Deans this school year. In addition to teaching, Ms. Hudson and Mr. Mahar are actively involved in affirming our school culture through mentorship, coaching students through love and discipline, and in overseeing school events including epic cycles, spirit week, and school dances.  Ms. Hudson has been teaching in the Great Hearts network for 5 years (4 years at GP) and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Child and Family Counseling. Mr. Mahar has taught at Glendale Prep for 7 years and recently earned his Master’s degree in Classical Education.Mr. Weisse is a Dean this school year. He teaches both MS and HS students, observes and coaches our teachers, and oversees Exceptional Student Services, which provides particular support and encouragement for our students. Mr. Weisse has been teaching and in administration at Glendale Prep for 9 years.Mr. Withers is the Assistant Headmaster this school year. In addition to teaching, Mr. Withers observes our teachers, oversees grading and evaluation as well as academic credit approval and recovery. Mr. Withers has been teaching and in administration in the Great Hearts network for over 7 years (5 years at GP). My hope in highlighting members of our team is to help you know to whom you can turn with questions or to gather relevant information.

I am certainly grateful for all they do for our community!

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

PSAT (9th-11th Grade)
Each fall, Glendale Preparatory Academy provides all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors the opportunity to take the PSAT test, which is a predictor test for the SAT. For juniors, it is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship competition. Although only scores from the junior year are considered for the National Merit Scholarship competition, we also offer it for sophomores and freshmen. Taking the PSAT is a good opportunity for students to become familiar with both the PSAT and the SAT. This year the PSAT test will be administered on Wednesday, October 24th at 8:00 am and will conclude around 12:00 p.m.

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) brings a small snack, (4) arrives to school on time, and (5) has no appointments scheduled before noon.  Additionally, please have him/her bring: (1) extra sharpened #2 pencils and (2) a calculator.
