2023-2024 High School Retreat- Portal Open
Plans are well underway for 2023-2024 High School Retreat, and we want to have 100% student attendance. The primary goal of the retreat is to provide time and space away from the classroom for high school students to build relationships among their peers and with their teachers. The tradition behind this annual retreat is one example of carrying out our vision for Glendale Prep to be a place where students are known and loved. Cost and dates are listed below; note that the price increases on July 1st. Please pay on the payment portal using THIS link.

October 2, 2023 - October 6, 2023 @
Student Project Week: October 2nd-6th
Project Week is an important part of the curriculum at Glendale Prep. During the week, all students will complete an independent study assignment at home (reading and writing) on a specific text related to a particular subject in their grade's curriculum and will need to acquire this text prior to the beginning of Project Week if they have not done so already. Copies of Red Badge of Courage have been obtained for high school who will receive them in their Humane Letters Classes the week before break.
Middle-School students are responsible for obtaining a copy of their project week book; students should already own these books as they are on the Classics to Keep list. Here they are again for your reference:
- 6th Grade Lit/Comp: The Last Battle, ISBN: 978-0064471084
- 7th Grade Life Science. The Miracle Worker, ISBN: 978-1416590842
- 8th Grade Medieval History. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Tolkien translation), ISBN: 978-0345277602
Students will be given guidelines and assignments to accompany the reading by the teacher in whose class the reading is assigned. Note: Seniors will be required to complete the reading portion of the assignment, but they will not be required to complete the written portion, in order to focus their writing attention on their Senior Thesis.
In addition, Project Week will culminate with High School Symposium, which will be moved this year to Wednesday, October 18th. We are inviting all high school students to have a leisurely lunch (pizza) together after the half day, which will be provided by the school. High school students must be picked up at 1:00PM. Because middle school students will be released per the ordinary schedule at 12:15PM, we are asking parents who have both middle and high school students to make two trips for pickup or make arrangements for separate pickup. Middle school students should not remain on campus past 12:45PM.
All reading and writing for the assignment must be completed and brought to school on Monday, October 16th, and will be reflected in the Quarter 2 grades evaluations for the subject area specific to that grade's assignment. Students should expect to spend approximately 20-25 hours working on their assignments over the course of Project Week. Please support your children in planning a reasonable study schedule for that week in order to ensure that adequate time and effort is devoted to the completion of this important assignment.
March 3, 2024 - March 8, 2024 @
Hello Parents of Seniors,
We are excited to be planning the Class of 2024 Senior Trip. The dates are March 3-8, 2024 and we hope all seniors will attend.
The cost will be $1500 per student, and it will cover air travel, all chartered busses, week-long Metro pass, one formal dinner, one lunch, lodging (including daily breakfast), one trip to the theater, and a variety of excursion tickets. We need an initial payment of $215 by August 28th and are offering two payment options:
- Pay $1500 in one payment by August 28, 2023.
- Pay $215 each month (August through February) via scheduled, recurring payments.
Both options will ensure all students have paid for their trip by February 29th. The trip must be paid in full by the end of February. Please utilize our portal to purchase the product HERE.
Refer to the handout in the blue folders distributed at Senior Night on Tuesday for more detailed information. If you were unable to attend, your student can pick this up from Mrs. Ortiz. Please contact Madame Cognet-Pereira with Senior Trip questions.
Warmly,
Glendale Prep Senior Trip Leadership Team
