Giving Tuesday at Glendale Prep

Glendale Prep November 27, 2024 -

Full Circle from Student to Teacher – Glendale Prep Alumnus, Mr. Ethan Crab, Gives Back!

This Giving Tuesday we celebrate Mr. Crabb, one of our 6th grade Nature of Science and 12th grade Rhetoric teachers! Mr. Crabb started at Glendale Prep in 2013 when he was in 6th grade, graduating from GP in 2020.

Mr. Crabb went on to attend Biola University and swam for their swim team. After graduating from college, he decided to return to Glendale Prep as a faculty member. As a former GP student, he said that he is “forever indebted to the way Glendale Prep prepared me both academically and personally.” Mr. Crabb stated that it was “clear during his time at GP that the teachers are the bedrock of the school. Their passion for the liberal arts education was contagious, as well as their zeal for their individual subject matter. As a student I couldn’t help but feel built up and encouraged by this passion and enthusiasm. The love us, care about us, and would do anything to help us succeed.”

As much as the academics of GP set Mr. Crabb up for success in college, the culture and mission of the school is what helped him thrive. “Our goal is to cultivate young men and women who care about truly important things. ‘Truth, Goodness, and Beauty’ was not just a slogan thrown around, but a set of guidelines aiding us in our endeavor to become better humans. Glendale Prep helped me learn to care about the well-being of my soul first and academics second.”

Working with students who have intense curiosity is one of the best parts of his job. Teaching 6th grade Nature of Science and 12th grade Rhetoric has given him a unique perspective about Glendale Prep’s “Big Picture.” Walking alongside 6th grade students who are just beginning their journey at GP to those wrapping up their time here as seniors, watching them grow and mature is a blessing. In addition, being a part of faculty that cherishes education creates an atmosphere of humility and reverence for learning. “It is rare to find a school that is concerned with developing their students as holistically good people. It is a mission of Glendale Prep to do just that, and I am so grateful to be a small part of that mission.”

What do Mr. Crabb’s students say about him? One 12th grade student commented, “Mr. Crabb fosters positive class culture through his joyful approach to teaching. He connects with his students and seeks to bond with his class.” Another commented, “Mr. Crabb really makes us think deeply—every discussion feels like we’re sharpening our minds and learning how to express ourselves better. It’s not just about writing or speaking; it’s about understanding the power of words.”

We applaud Mr. Crabb, and all our Glendale Prep faculty and staff, for all they give to Glendale Prep each day!
