Welcome Back; Reminders and Updates 1.6.2020

January 6, 2021 -

Hello Parents,

We hope you have had an enjoyable and restful break. We so look forward to welcoming back our onsite students and distance learners this Thursday, January 7th. We wanted to send a few important reminders and updates for you to review before our return.

Health and Safety
The health and safety of our students is our main priority. As we did in Semester I, we will continue with our standard protocols of temperature checks, masks, staggered schedule, designated areas by grade, and staggered dismissal. It is important that you remind your child to be washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and to exercise social distancing. As a reminder, please do not send students back to school if:

  • Anyone they have been in contact with has tested positive for COVID-19. Students should quarantine for 10 days from last contact.
  • They have been tested for COVID-19 and are waiting for test results. Students can return after receiving a negative result and are symptom-free and fever free for 24-48 hours.
  • Someone in their household has been tested for COVID-19 and is waiting for test results. Students can return after the tested person has received a negative result.
  • They have any symptoms of COVID-19, which include fever (>100.0°F), cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, sore throat, headache, muscle/body aches, runny nose or congestion, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or a new loss of taste or smell. Students may return when symptoms are gone, if they have a doctor’s note, or have received a negative COVID-19 test result.
  • They have traveled internationally. Students can return 10 days from return date or after receiving a negative COVID-19 test five or more days after their return.

Thank you for continuing to cooperate and partner with us, as we work to keep Glendale Prep as healthy and safe as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Katherine Sarbacker, the Glendale Prep COVID Coordinator at ksarbacker@glendaleprep.org or 623-889-0822, extension 1504.

We have a specific Quarantine Process we will follow in Semester II for our onsite students. In the event that your child is a positive case or determined a primary contact/close contact, Mrs. Sarbacker will communicate with you about the duration of your child’s quarantine. While your onsite child is quarantined, we will provide online support in each class. This may mean Zooming in to class and attending the entire period, or it may mean completing work independently with occasional live video support. The expectations will vary according to each teacher’s plan, so it is important your quarantined child check Google Classroom each day for each period, according to the regular on-campus schedule. Each student will receive an invitation to join each teacher’s Google Classroom if the student has not already received it. If your child does not complete the work as requested, it will reflect in the grade. Students may be asked to take a test or turn in a major assignment immediately upon their return; if you anticipate particular difficulty in taking these promptly, it is usually best practice to arrange a tutoring time with a teacher in advance.

If you do not see instruction posted to Classroom by a particular teacher 24 hours after learning of the quarantine, please email that teacher directly to ask for direction. Please copy our Academic Dean, Ms. Wegener (kwegener@glendaleprep.org), on the email. You can find some additional resources for Google Classroom and Zoom on the school website, under Remote Learning. (https://glendaleprep.greatheartsamerica.org/remote-learning/)

Schedule; First day of school is BLOCK B
Please follow the link to access your child’s schedule if you have not done so already. Our first day back will be Block B classes, which include periods 2, 4, and 6.

Traffic Procedures
We are asking all families to revisit the pick-up and drop-off procedures, especially if you are dropping off and picking up for the first time this school year (see the map linked below). Share the procedure and plan for timing with all drivers who will be picking up your child. Please expect drop off to take a bit longer now that more families have chosen in-person learning for Semester 2. It is important to precisely time picking up students to ensure you will not have to exit and re-enter the campus. Dismissals continue to be staggered, so not all students will be ready for pickup on the curb at the beginning of dismissal, and students must be picked up at their grade level location. If you are picking up multiple students in different grades, we strongly recommend you arrive on campus at the time of the student with the latest dismissal time, because vehicles will be waved to keep moving in the passing lane and cannot wait in the designated student waiting area. Click here to view the drop-off and pickup procedures and map. If you arrive before 3:00 p.m. on regular days or noon on early release days, you will be asked to exit and re-enter the campus as it causes delays in the Archway pickup lines. If you have children at both Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep, please drop them off at the same location. Vehicles that drop off students on the north curb near the Glendale Prep gym, should NOT continue to the east curb to drop off additional students. (Archway Glendale’s leadership strongly recommends that families dropping off both Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep students use the east curb only.)

We are so blessed to partner with you in Semester II and look forward to another wonderful semester together.

Sincerely,

Glendale Prep Leadership
