A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Parents, This is the first time in seventeen years that I am not teaching! I miss it tremendously but have the pleasure of visiting classes to help students when they are working on different writing assignments. In fact, we have a plan in place this year to have additional writing support during the in-class writing process. Nine teachers are spending their prep period to help 6th-10th grade students in their Literature and Composition or Humane Letters class to improve in their composition skills, such as: making a claim, crafting a thesis, integrating quotes, developing coherent and effective analysis, incorporating transitions, while also ensuring diction, syntax, tense, voice, and conventions are of quality. After piloting this program for Quarter 1, we see the value in providing more opportunity for students to receive one-on-one guidance. Like all skills, students will improve with time and experience, not merely through one essay. We anticipate continuing to provide this additional support to students in Quarter 2. Sincerely, Community Investment and Tax Credit The Teacher Excellence Fund Telethon is this Saturday, September 25th! The Glendale Prep segment is from 3:30pm to 4:00pm and will be hosted by Mr. Navarrette and Mrs. DeStefano. Tune in on Facebook, YouTube, or the Great Hearts website to support our teachers. Plus, when you give to the Great Hearts Telethon your student will be entered to win “Athletic Director for a Day” with Mr. Garrison! Join us for an exciting day honoring our incredible teachers!
