A Note From Headmaster
Hello Parents, Our early release days are unique when it comes to building a strong faculty culture. Students are excited to close out the week early; however, teachers and staff remain on campus together to do what we love. We eat a tasty and satisfying meal provided by the Parent Service Organization, and then we seminar. Seminar: the opportunity to come together, sit, share, listen, and discuss. It is what unites us in our calling to wonder about and inquire of truth. This year we are reading various essays and writings by Nietzsche and a story by Chaim Potok titled My Name is Asher Lev. Faculty seminar is an aspect “of the job” that feeds the soul; it is living out what it is to be a life-long learner, to use our present experiences to understand human nature and what is good. The conversation is good. We care about conversation and seek to train students to be able to converse with humility and love. Ask your child about what he or she is learning; I guarantee, it may lead to a great conversation. I promise, Nietzsche will appreciate this- Prove him wrong when he writes: We are unknown to ourselves, we men of knowledge—and with good reason. We have never sought ourselves—how could it happen that we should ever find ourselves…Present experience has, I am afraid, always found us ‘absent-minded’: we cannot give our hearts to it—not even our ears! Rather, as one divinely preoccupied and immersed in himself into whose ear the bell has just boomed with all its strength the twelve beats of noon suddenly starts up and ask himself: ‘what really was that which just struck?’ so we sometimes rub our ears afterward and ask, utterly surprised and disconcerted, ‘what really was that which we have just experienced?’ and moreover: ‘who are we really?’ and, afterward as aforesaid, count the twelve trembling bell-strokes of experience, our life, our being—and alas! miscount them—So we are necessarily strangers to ourselves… Sincerely, Mr. Navarrette One Location Drop Off Tutoring Schedule: Semester 1 Updated Academic Calendar Deficiency Notices: Quarter 1 College Counseling CLASS OF 2021 STUDENTS AND PARENTS: SAVE THE DATE October 1st at 6:30 p.m. for our Virtual FAFSA Information Workshop o Every year, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens on October 1st for those who are applying to colleges and universities for fall admissions.
