A Note From the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

It was a wonderful week! After weeks of planning, it was so good to finally see our teachers and our students. The feedback I keep hearing from teachers is that the students are energized and happy.

I was reminded again of the love we share in our community-

  • Some alumni came back to bring the teachers donuts on the first day of school.
  • Our seniors not only passed out welcome cards and candy to every student, but brought teachers cold water during traffic duty.
  • The PSO and a special family stocked up the faculty office and fridge with sustenance to get us through the busy week.

I was thinking as a parent, what should I tell my son Luke to focus on as he starts his first year at GP, and I want to share it with you:

  1. Work Hard
  2. Respect Your Teachers
  3. Find a Way to Show Love to Someone

Partner with me in encouraging our children to make these three goals a focus for the school year. It will certainly ensure that GP continues to be a place where students are known and loved.

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Thank You GP Parents & Students
Thank you to all the volunteers that made the GP Bookstore a success! And thank you to all the families that came in prepared and had their items pre-paid. An enormous amount of work goes into making it a smooth process for all 600+ students to pick up their books and schedules before school starts.

Thank you to the Senior Class for all they did to make the first day of school exciting and memorable for all!

Traffic Procedures
Learn this year’s traffic procedures here. In addition to the logistical procedure, please remember to:

  • Arrive after 3:05 p.m. to avoid obstructing the Archway pick-up line.
  • Obey the crossing guards – they are there for the safety of children and efficient flow of traffic. Please heed their direction.
  • Show patience and courtesy –please approach the campus with an awareness of this reality and demonstrate the patience and courtesy you’d wish for others and your children to show.
  • Avoid illegal activity – stopping, standing, dropping off, or picking up on a major street is illegal, unsafe, and unwise. Please help us to be good neighbors and law-abiding citizens by using only the campus for drop-off and pickup. There is one exception to this rule: there are a few spaces for legal pickup on Pinnacle Peak and 84th avenue along the north side of Pinnacle Peak.
  • Drive safely – Do NOT block city streets, do NOT make illegal vehicular maneuvers or wild U-turns. Do NOT use your cell phone while driving. Know that you are driving near a school and need to make careful and wise decisions, please give driving your full attention.

9th Grade Retreat
Next week is the first Annual 9th Grade Retreat! We ask that parents of 9th-grade students take a look at the following documents, as well as carry out relevant action items:

  1. View retreat Schedule here
  2. View retreat Packing List here
  3. View guest Consent Release here  and turn in to Ms. Hudson
  4. View Special Dietary Requests/Needs here and turn in to Ms. Hudson (if applicable)
  5. View Registration Form here and turn into Ms. Hudson
  6. Communicate with Ms. Hudson if you do not plan to attend the retreat (if you have not done so already) at ehudson@glendaleprep.org. We will assume all students are attending the retreat unless Ms. Hudson is informed.
  7. Communicate with Ms. Hudson and turn in any medication needed for your student prior to the retreat at ehudson@glendaleprep.org. Please do not send it with your student on the bus as a faculty member is required to distribute any medications.

Make Final Payment here if you have not done so already.

Volunteer Fingerprinting Opportunity
Our volunteers are one of the reasons Glendale Prep such an amazing community. Glendale Prep will be providing an opportunity to help you become a part of that community by providing a fingerprint session on Thursday, August 15th from 12:25 p.m. to 2:05 p.m. If you are planning to help at the school or any school event, you will need to go through this fingerprinting process. These fingerprint clearances are good for three years and are valid at Glendale Prep and Archway Glendale. Sign up for an appointment here. Please bring an ID and enter through the front office at your appointment time.

The school incurs a $20 fee from the state of AZ for each volunteer fingerprinted. If you are able to make a donation to help offset the cost, we would be grateful. A donation can be made on the payment portal, or by cash/check to the front office.

Label Personal Items & Lost and Found
We ask that your student labels all personal items clearly ie. planners, lunch boxes, pencil cases, water bottles, glasses cases, GP sweaters, GP tote bags, Classics to Keep, etc. This will help ensure the return of valuable items to your child.

Lost items that are found are placed in the “Lost and Found” cart located in the courtyard. It is the student’s responsibility to check the cart frequently for known or unknown lost items. The cart will be purged weekly and items that are there for a week or longer will be donated, with the exception of books and uniforms. If your student has lost an item of significant value they can check with the front office.

Homework Club
Glendale Prep provides a place for students to complete homework and quietly socialize with friends in a structured, supervised environment. The program runs every school day (including early release days) from directly after school until 5:30 p.m., excluding vacations and holidays, when school is not in session.

Cost: (Until 5:30 p.m.) $90/month for one child; $60/month for each additional child, plus a $25 registration fee per family per year. A monthly fee is payable through a recurring, automatic charge to your credit card on the first of each month. Register your student here.

Please reach out to Mr. Kilcup at mkilcup@glendaleprep.org with any questions.
