A Note From Headmaster

Hello Parents,

We have our End of Year Assembly on the last day of school this coming Friday. After the assembly, students spend time cleaning out their lockers, checking in their textbooks, and helping with classroom clean-up. The day then ends with students having some time to sign yearbooks on the field, blacktop, patio, and in the gym. Please know that we will not be keeping grades separated from other grades during the one-hour yearbook signing time. Students will be outdoors but will not be separated by grade level for yearbook signing during the last hour, so students might want to take precautions by wearing a mask if there is a concern.

The Arete Awards given to students on the last day include the following:

The Sapientia Award is given to students whose academic excellence is clearly driven by a love of learning. Not just technically proficient, and not primarily motivated by grades, these students are known for their joyful and receptive attitude to the subject of study, their humility in the face of difficult intellectual questions, their depth of inquiry in a given topic, and their authentic sense of wonder.

The Augustine Award is given to students who have shown outstanding perseverance in pursuing the ideals of the academy and, as a result, have experienced significant growth in virtues of intellect and character. Through their attitude and efforts, they exemplify the spirit of Glendale Preparatory Academy.

The Humanitas Award is given to students who help build an authentic and vibrant community while on campus. These students show an open-handed generosity of spirit in their interactions with classmates, faculty, and staff at Glendale Preparatory Academy. Their community spirit grows out of a sense of purpose: not simply aspiring to belong to a group but to strive together for the good. They have charity for others, contribute to the school culture through their attitude and actions, and show integrity under pressure.

The Griffin Award is given to the student-athletes who stand out in their striving for true excellence on the field, on campus, and in the classroom. These students have distinguished themselves through outstanding athleticism, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and commitment to the ideals of the academy.

Mr. Navarrette

Last Week of School
Semester Exams: Semester exams will be administered on Tuesday, May 25th – Thursday, May 27th. The exams will be comprehensive of the material taught in Quarters 3 and 4. We ask parents to discuss the importance of semester exams with their sons and daughters and to encourage them to communicate with their teachers if they have questions about how to best prepare for exams. High School and Middle School Distance Learners received specific instructions last week regarding semester exams and school-issued textbook and device returns.

School-Issued Textbook Returns: Parents, please remind your children to bring the appropriate school-issued textbook(s) with them to each scheduled exam. Any school-issued textbooks not returned or submitted in unusable condition will be taken out of the textbook deposit. Please use the link to review the grade level textbook list:

Last Day of School: Attendance is mandatory on the last day of school. Yearbooks will be handed out on the last day. If students do not attend school that day they will need to make arrangements to pick up their yearbook during the limited summer hours, over summer break. NO SHARPIE PENS are allowed on campus for yearbook signing. There are a limited number of yearbooks still available for $50. Click here to order your GP Yearbook now. Not sure if you’ve preordered?
