A Note From Headmaster
Hello,As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to share with our entire community about a special event and new tradition at Glendale Prep for 9th-12th grade students. After we return in the Fall, our entire high school, roughly 300 students and 25 teachers will make a trip to Williams, Arizona, to spend three days and two nights at the Lost Canyon campsite. It will be a special time to be together and create memories we will cherish throughout the rest of the school year. My vision for GP is that we are a place where students are known and loved; I believe this annual retreat will help begin to form lasting friendships for years to come. We need a work crew to be in charge of meal prep, service, and cleanup, so alumni and parents are welcome to reach out to me directly by email to share interest in joining the work crew, free of charge.

For parents of rising 9th-12th grade students, please remember to sign up for the retreat by visiting our payment portal or clicking on the link. 21-22 HS Retreat.

Have a great weekend,

Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Senior Thesis
Senior Thesis Defense Panels consist of two main parts: 1) The Thesis Presentation: a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2) The Thesis Panel Discussion: a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis. Parents are invited to attend. Please enter through the front office.

Upcoming panels:

Senior Student Date & Time
Isabella Klein Monday, May 17th at 3:30 PM
Jacob Johnson Tuesday, May 18th at 3:30 PM

Radio Drama Performances
Lux Toilet Soap and the Glendale Prep 12th Grade Drama class are pleased to present the radio drama adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s American Classic, “Little Women.” Join us as we revisit the world of the March Family as these wonderful students bring this story to life using only voice and foley for the art of live sound effects. Tune in to the GHA YouTube channel on Wednesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. so you, too, can revisit your favorite moments from Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy, and all of the colorful characters of this beloved piece. Enjoy!

Griffin Robotics
One of the GP robotics teams, Griffin Robotics Team #18421, competed in the State Championship, held remotely, for the second time in five years. The team earned 3rd place out of about 35 teams, each of which had to qualify from a larger pool of teams across the state, a major improvement over the previous time the team qualified.

Currently, Griffin Robotics is making plans for next season. You can visit the team’s YouTube channel, shared with our partner team 18421 Metal Masters, linked here. The best match can be watched here and an explanation of the game and its rules can be found here. The team is now recruiting for the next year.

If you would like to support the team, please contact Mr. Roper at broper@glendaleprep.org.

Junior & Senior Promenade
This year’s Glendale Prep Junior and Senior Promenade was a night to remember! Attendees dined on a three-course meal, danced the Rumba, Cha-Cha, Waltz, Swing, and the Fox Trot, and made memories to last a lifetime. The décor for the evening was made possible by the families who entered the table centerpiece décor contest. While the winner was a close call, Mrs. Nora Palubinskas won the vote with Mrs. Catherine Janssen and Mrs. Claudia Waters tying the vote as runners-up.

Runner-Up -Mrs. Catherine Janssen          Runner-Up -Mrs. Claudia Waters

Winner -Mrs. Nora Palubinskas

Thank you Mrs. Rachel Janssen who coordinated the Prom, Mrs. Ziegler who took photographs, the teachers that chaperoned, and all the parents that helped make this year’s Prom a success.

Uniform Try-On Event
Anton Uniforms is conducting a “Try-On” event on campus on June 4th, 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and June 5th, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This is a try-on event only; uniforms will not be available for immediate purchase. GP families will be able to purchase online at the event if they wish and receive 15% off their purchase along with free shipping. This is a great opportunity to purchase uniforms and have them shipped instead of having to drive out to the store. Uniforms purchased can be exchanged (with tags on) through August 10th.  Please sign up to schedule a time for your fitting, click here.

The PSO Uniform Sale is scheduled for the Bookstore event happening Monday, July 26th. This is also when students receive their locker assignments, textbooks, schedules, etc. Please SAVE THE DATE and keep an eye out for more information and a sign-up link next month in a separate email.

Textbooks
Glendale Prep is proud to be able to provide physical textbooks for students use. These remain the property of Glendale Prep and should be returned in similar condition at the end of the school year. All students were asked to cover their textbooks to help protect the binding and should have done so at the beginning of the school year.

Please begin to ask your child(ren) if they have all textbooks that were issued to them and if they are in good condition prior to finals, when books will be checked by their teacher. If a book cannot be located and returned by the last day of school, the amount to replace the textbook with a new one will be taken out of the textbook deposit. You can click here to see the list of textbooks for each grade level that is also always available on the GP website.

2021-2022 Change of Plans?
If your plans have changed and your child will not be attending Glendale Prep next school year, please reach out to Mrs. Hayakawa so she can send you the 2021-2022 withdrawal form and place you on the list to receive a textbook deposit refund. Awareness of any non-returning students helps GP with their 2021-2022 budget, and it allows us to offer a seat to a student on the waitlist eagerly awaiting to enter Glendale Prep.

France 2022
Due to the pandemic, the trip to France has been rescheduled. It will take place in June 2022. Spots are still available! Don’t miss this opportunity to join!

Do you want to eat a croissant in a Paris cafe with a view of the Eiffel Tower, chase Marie-Antoinette’s ghost in the Palais of Versailles, feel like a Lord walking in the castles of la Loire, or see the beaches of Normandy where the American and English troops arrived in 1944 to liberate France and Europe? This trip is for you!

An informational meeting will take place in August 2021 with more details, but you can contact Madame Cognet-Pereira now with any questions at ccognet-pereira@glendaleprep.org. Merci!

Quarter 4 Deficiency Notices
If your student receives a Deficiency Notice, please talk it over with your child so a plan of action can be put into place for future success. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers to follow up with a plan to improve. Teachers are always available to help students during tutoring hours.
