| A Note From Headmaster
Hello Parents,
I was saddened Monday of this week when I learned the Governor closed schools for the remainder of the school year. Of course, we anticipated it and have been making back-up upon back-up plans, but when it becomes a reality, it was very difficult to process. I will not see my teachers in the faculty office reading a poem and laughing together. I will not be able to discuss The Chosen with my 8th grade class. I will not have the dozens of greetings with students each day. My son’s first year in school was cut short. Now, life is changed for the next number of weeks, but amid my sadness, I found hope. As I was reading and answering scores of my daily emails, I received a message from a senior. I have included a link to the letter he wrote to our school, teachers, coaches, parents, juniors, and his fellow seniors. I hope you find hope in reading the wisdom and love from one of our own. Here is the letter.
Thank you for your patience and commitment during this time.
Sincerely,
Mr. Navarette
Re-Enrollment
You should have received a Re-Enrollment email from the Great Hearts lead office this week. To keep our community safe, they have implemented an online e-signature for all Re-Enrollments. You will not need to come to the school to drop off a packet. Please check your email and complete the process by Monday, April 20th. If you did not receive the email, please check your junk/spam folder. Thank you for your partnership.
Locker Contents Retrieval and Athletic Uniform Turn-In
If you would like the items from student lockers there will be an opportunity to pick them up next week. We will be distributing student belongings on Wednesday, April 8th. Know that we will most likely use a similar procedure for textbook turn-in at the end of the school year.
To keep families and faculty safe, we ask that you:
- Use this link to create a sign for student(s) name and place it on the dash of the passenger’s windshield
- Arrive within your pick up window time slot (see below)
- Pull up to the curb (similar to morning pickup/afternoon drop-off but in single file)
- Stay in your car and pop the trunk open; the belongings will be placed in your trunk
Once your student’s locker contents are placed in your trunk, you can proceed to exit the parking lot UNLESS you have athletic uniforms to return. Please place the uniform in a grocery bag, tied, with a piece of paper that has your student’s name and sport on it stapled to the outside of the bag. Please have this bag in the front seat so you can easily access it. Once your student’s locker contents have been placed in your trunk, please pull forward and drop the bag in the box labeled SPORTS UNIFORM DROP OFF. You will be able to do so from your driver’s seat without having to exit your car.
Staff will be wearing gloves while working with student items. Families should arrive within the time slot associated with the first letter of their student’s last name.

Remote Learning
Google Classroom is the platform we will be using for remote learning through the remainder of the school year. Please check your email for directions, instructions, guidance, and resources. We hope this platform will be easier for students to navigate and submit assignments to their teachers. Please have patience while working through any technology hiccups. Teachers have worked hard to learn this new platform and will continue to impress the excitement of their subject, the care for your child, and the love of learning.
Students may have questions about assignments; we are asking them to please email teachers with specific questions. Teachers will reply to emails, with questions within the hour, Monday-Friday, from 7:35 a.m. – 3:35 p.m.
Senior Thesis Panels
The Senior Thesis and its defense are an important part of the Glendale Prep tradition, and we are determined to provide this unique opportunity to all of our seniors. The seniors have put a great deal of work into their Senior Thesis, and we believe it is important for them to complete this valuable process and have a way to defend it. After careful review, we have decided to support our students using the Zoom platform. The “Host” will send invitations to the presenting senior’s parents, all faculty members, and the senior class. In this way parents, faculty members, and senior friends will be able to attend the panels.
All panels will consist of two main parts: 1)The Thesis Presentation: a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2)The Thesis Panel Discussion: a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis, and finally the audience will submit questions for the student via the “chat” function of Zoom. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. LeTrent at kletrent@glendaleprep.org.
Next week’s Senior Panelists
- Sophia Hsieh: Wednesday, April 8th at 2:30 p.m.
- Matthew Hawkins: Thursday, April 9th at 2:30 p.m
