A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I was able to review the parent surveys with my teachers this past week and wanted to share some insights with you. First, we had a strong number of parents complete the survey; that is the first positive, so I thank all of you who were able to complete it. I was pleased to see our numbers were higher than the average for Arizona prep schools in nearly all categories; however, there were some results that we must address.

The two areas where we scored lower than our sister schools were “Teachers’ discipline of children was just right” and “homework load is just right.” I have ideas for how to gain even more clarity from you, which might include a follow up survey; however, for now, I invite you to email me directly your thoughts. Please do not worry about flooding my email as I want to process this with my team. I have theories that parents are a mixed bag who think the homework is too extreme, while others believe it is not heavy enough. So too, I think some parents believe we are too strict; others, we are too lax. I will be discussing these two particular results with my advisory council as well, but would love to have as much direct feedback as possible.

The area of significant concern that connects most with my vision for GP were your responses, to the statement- “Students are kind to one another.” This was lower than expected for all of our schools. I believe this one should be the highest given what we seek to prioritize- virtue, and yet, we are not where we should be. For now, I am asking you to gather feedback from your child both in how they treat others and how they are treated. I invite you to share anecdotes and your insight with me, so I can address this as needed.

Please know that these were the areas where I want to improve, and so I am not dismissing the nearly twenty other statements of the survey that reveal how wonderful our teachers and community are. I am humbled when these surveys come out because the positive results, in my opinion, are a direct result of God’s grace, our dedicated teachers, and your commitment to our mission.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Senior Drama Performance- Date Change

The Grade 12 students will be presenting the historical modern drama Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee on Saturday, April 23rd at 3pm in the GP Gymnasium.  This date and time has been changed from the original date of April 29 at 7pm; please make that change in your calendars and be sure to join us on April 23rd for this immersive courtroom experience.  The students of period 3 have been working hard all semester and this show is sure to offer memorable moments, conversation starters, and wonderful performances from this dynamic group of students.  Admission is free and we will be having refreshments during intermission; cash only.  Proceeds will go towards the Grade 12 trip to D.C. next month.  Hope to see you in court!

Tax Credit

We only need 19 TAX CREDITS to reach our goal!

Please continue to ask family and friends to take advantage of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit program.  We only need 19 more Tax Credits to reach our goal!  Glendale Prep knows student character is formed not only through the academic journey in our classrooms, but also when students participate in athletics, after school clubs, field trips, on-site performances, and character building programs.  All of these activities are supported through the Arizona State Tax Credit campaign, and because this campaign directly impacts our students, we ask all Glendale Prep families to participate.  If you have yet to take advantage of the Arizona Tax Credit program, please click here to give today.  Remember, you will receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on your 2021 Arizona State tax bill.  Simply include your tax receipt and subtract up to $400 when you file your Arizona taxes before April 15, 2022.
