A Note From Headmaster

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is The Night of the Griffin. This is a community event our PSO puts on every year with Mrs. Kennedy taking the lead. There will be food, activities, raffle items, a corn-hole tournament, a lip-sync contest, and much more. The event is from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and the theme is “A Night at the Rodeo”. We will be bringing my parents to share this time with their grandchildren. I hope to see you all there with your families.

Best,
Mr. Navarrette

PSO Corner

Senior Trip
The Senior Trip to D.C. is next week! Seniors should arrive at Sky Harbor, Terminal 3, Thursday, March 5th at 11:15 p.m. and make their way to the United Airlines ticket counter to find their lead teacher. Our flight, United #2064, will depart at 12:59 a.m. Please check your email for further information, and check the weather the day before. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Roiger at rroiger@glendaleprep.org. Bon Voyage!

Raptor System Implementation
In order to ensure the safety of our campuses, we will be implementing the Raptor Visitor Management System, which helps us to always know who is on our campus. A communication was sent on February 27th about this change; however, if you did not see it, please view the original communication here. This new system will go live when we return from Spring Break on Monday, March 16th and will allow us to track visitors, vendors, and volunteers in a better way. Starting on Monday, March 16th, we ask that all visitors have their valid state-issued ID ready to be scanned to be let on campus. The security of our community is of the utmost importance, and we appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and patience as we roll out the Raptor Visitor Management System. If you have questions about Raptor or its implementation, please reach out to Mr. Navarrette.

Science Fair
Please note: Official Registration for Science Fair is now CLOSED. There will be NO registration of projects at the door, on the day of the event. If your 6th-12th grade student missed the official registration deadline but still has a stellar idea for a science project, you MUST email Dr. Ustach to get approval to enter the Science Fair.

Senior Thesis Panels
Senior Thesis Panels are quickly approaching! All panels will consist of two main parts: 1)The Thesis Presentation: a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2)The Thesis Panel Discussion: a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis. Family, friends, and members of the Glendale Prep community at large are invited to attend. Please enter through the front office to sign in.

Next week the following students will have their panels:

Senior Student Panel Date, Time, and Location
Wesley Burton Monday, March 2nd at 3:30 p.m. in the Library
Amelia Moore Wednesday, March 4th at 3:30 p.m. in the Libary

Compost Project at GP
Did you know that the amount of solid waste created in one year by everyone in the United States is enough to cover the entire country in a layer of trash? Glendale Prep is taking strides to become an environmentally conscious school. With the help of faculty, staff, students, and parents, we hope to have a school that encourages reducing, reusing, and recycling. One of our projects is to build a compost area for all food waste. It requires some material and a little bit of time. Our “3R” ECNA students and teacher are on it, but it would be highly helpful if any GP family was willing to donate soil, a couple of shovels, gardening gloves and/or to participate in building the compost area (with plastic bins). Interested? Please contact Madame Cognet Pereira ASAP at cpereira@glendaleprep.org. We can’t change the past, but we can change the future. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

GP Athletics

  • Thank you to all of the student-athletes who participated in our winter sports programs. We are proud of you and appreciate all of your hard work and efforts!
  • Please be sure to join your team’s Team App if you are playing a spring sports to stay updated with all of the team updates. The front office has this information in the event that you have questions or concerns.

Great Hearts Gala
The Great Hearts 2020 Gala will be here before you know it! The Great Hearts Gala is an annual network-wide event bringing together Great Hearts families, friends, corporations, and the community in support of our teachers. Funds raised at the Gala will be used to reward and retain our network’s outstanding teachers.

Erinn Mobley is the 2020 Great Hearts Gala Chair for the Glendale Campus. She will keep you posted on all Gala related information. Ms. Mobley will not be able to make the Glendale Campus’ contribution a success without your help! Please consider sponsoring a table, a donation to the silent auction, live auction or raffle, or both! If you have questions regarding the Great Hearts Gala, please feel free to call or text Ms. Mobley at 480.297.4477, email her at emobley@archwayglendale.org or visit www.GreatHeartsGala2020.org. Please watch for more information in upcoming blasts.

Uniform Shorts Permitted
As a reminder, khaki uniform shorts may be worn upon our return from Spring Break on Monday, March 16th, until the end of the school year. Shorts should go to just above the knee but not below, and should not be excessively tight or loose-fitting. White, ankle-high socks may be worn with shorts.

Promenade Dance Lessons
Junior and Senior Prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th. Seniors and their guests are required to complete three hours of dance lessons. Juniors and their guests are required to complete five hours in preparation for Prom. They can, of course, choose to attend more than the required amount of dance lessons. Re-Enrollment Sign-Up
Re-Enrollment is coming! This will be the time to indicate your intent to return to Glendale Prep and secure your child’s seat for the 2020-2021 school year. Emails for current 6th-11th graders will not be sent out until the week of March 2nd from the Great Hearts’ lead office, but you can reserve your appointment now! All re-enrollment packets will be accepted by appointment the mornings of March 18th – March 20th in conjunction with Archway Glendale.
