A Note from the Headmaster (PLEASE READ)

Hello Parents,

It is important I share with you a slight change for Finals Week (Wednesday through Friday), December 14th-16th. This change has the potential of accomplishing many benefits and provides an opportunity to test an option for pick up that will reduce the number of cars and enable parents who have students at both Glendale Prep and Archway to come through pick only one time. I fully understand that my plan could make things more difficult or bring about frustration during this week, but I am asking for your trust, patience, and discipline to see if this option is something we can consider in the future.

The Finals Week Schedule will be as follows:

Monday– No school for students; study day at home

Tuesday– Our normal 8:05am-12:45pm half day schedule with our standard half day pick up

Wednesday- Friday

8:05-9:20 Exam I

9:20-10:00 Break/Study Hall

10:05-11:20 Exam II

11:25-11:55 GP only dismissal and pick up; GP students with Archway siblings will remain in the class of their second final to study quietly for the following day’s finals (on Friday, they can sit and chat with friends)

11:55-12:30 GP/ACG combined pick up; all GP students will wait on the East curb, listening for their names to then meet their ACG sibling for pickup. ACG pick up is a well-oiled machine, so our goal is to usher GP students to find their siblings outside the Archway MPR.

This plan and its anticipated success relies upon parents making sure to arrive at the two designated times. You can imagine that if GP/ACG families arrive before 11:55pm, they will have to wait until GP only parents circle through the queue. Likewise, if GP only parents wait until after 11:55am to pick up their child, they will face a plethora of vehicles coming through for GP/ACG combined pickup. If we can come up with a system that reduces 150-200 vehicles coming on campus two times in the afternoon, that is beneficial to all of us and our neighbors. Again, I understand that this could not go well, so I welcome any and all feedback, which I will reflect upon during the winter break, as we continue to think about different options to improve pick up for the 2023-2024 school year.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Winter Concert REHEARSAL

All Middle School choir students, both curricular and extracurricular, need to bring a sack lunch to eat at the venue on Tuesday, December 6th during rehearsal. The last bus returning from the rehearsals will be bringing back the 7th grade curricular choir students at 3:00pm and they will need time to get off the bus and go to their lockers before going to the curb for pick up. Seventh grade parents should come after 3:15pm to pick up their students.

11th Grade Drama Performance

Join the 11th Grade Drama classes on Saturday December 10th for a pair of Shakespeare plays. At 2:00pm come experience the magic of family reconciliations and love triumphing over hate, complete with a cast of colorful characters, including a roguish pickpocket and a bear, in A Winter’s Tale. Then at 7:00pm come experience actual magic in The Tempest as a powerful magician exacts revenge on his enemies and finds his daughter a loyal husband along the way. Admission to both productions is free and all are welcome!

After school dress rehearsal is Tuesday, December 6th until 6pm for 1st period 11thGrade Drama students, and Wednesday, December 7th until 4:30pm for 4th period 11thGrade Drama students.

Winter Concert

Remember that the Prep School Winter Concerts are on the evening of Wednesday, December 7th at Haven Church in Glendale (5902 W Cactus Rd, Glendale, AZ 85304). All grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 students in Music class are required to perform that evening, and will be joined by all of our extracurricular choirs (Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Bella Voce, Men’s Choir, and Middle School Choir). If your students are participating in the concert, they will receive detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert, but we also encourage all students and families to come to hear these fine performers share their musical gifts with you.

There are two separate concerts on December 7th. The Middle School concert begins at 5:30 pm and the High School concert begins at 7:00 pm. Students must provide their own transportation the evening of the concert. Middle School performers must arrive at the church by 4:30 pm to warm-up and get into position. High school students must arrive at the church by 5:55 pm.

Rehearsal for the concert will take place during the school day on Tuesday, December 6th. Students will be transported to and from Glendale Prep by bus for the rehearsal at Haven Church.
