A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Families,

This week, we enjoyed a wonderful middle school concert. The recorder ensembles of 7A, 8D, 7B, and 8B performed multiple songs with various soloists showcasing their talent in between these performances. Luke Sarmiento, Daniel Leuschner, and Lexsi Krueger played beautifully. I very much appreciated the decorum and diligence of all our students to create such a special night for teachers, family, friends, and their classmates. We are so blessed to see each and every student play music under the leadership of Mrs. Bookhout and Mrs. Kratz. I was again reminded of our unique educational program and strong community, which is a testament to our partnership with you, the parents. While the end of a semester is very busy, it is well worth setting aside time for beauty.

Enjoy the weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Finals Schedule

The schedule for finals week (December 11-15) is outlined below. Please review this information carefully with your child(ren). Because final exams are a culmination of all that students have learned first semester, if you have any appointments to be scheduled, please make them for after early release or for another day. Finals missed due to unavoidable conflicts will be made up outside of the school day or after the winter break and may result in an Incomplete grade on student report cards. Contact our Dean of Academics (AKratz@glendaleprep.org) if this applies to you or if you have any questions.

Monday, December 11
No School. Use this day for study, preparation, and rest.

Tuesday, December 12
Early release (12:15). Review day in all classes.

Wednesday, December 13
Early release (12:15). Final exams for first and second periods.

Thursday, December 14
Early release (12:15). Final exams for third and fourth periods.

Friday, December 15
Early release (12:15). Final exams for fifth and sixth periods.

On each testing day, the bell schedule will be as follows:

8:05-8:25          Study Hall
8:25-9:55          Exam
9:55-10:20        Break
10:25-10:40      Study Hall
10:45-12:15      Exam

Lastly, here are some tips to help your children find success and wellbeing in the next few weeks:

1. Maintain physical health through a consistent and sufficient bedtime, a diet including lots of fruits and vegetables, and plentiful hydration.
2. Maintain mental health by finding joy in the simple, peaceful pleasures this time of year brings. Take study breaks to enjoy the cool, crisp weather on a family walk together, bake some cookies, cozy up with leisure reading, or make plans for visiting the snow over winter break.
3. Encourage and help to provide a positive environment for studying free of distraction, including phones and other electronics.
4. Promote small intervals of daily study, rather than large, last-minute, stressful “cramming” sessions.
5. Encourage your student to attend tutoring.
6. Stick with your morning routine and be sure to get your student to school by 8:00 am. Being fully present in classes and on time for finals is essential.

Choral Winter Concert

All vocal ensembles will present their Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm at Haven Church in Glendale (5902 W Cactus Rd, Glendale, AZ 85304). This concert will include the 9th and 10th grade music classes and all extra-curricular choirs.  All students in high school curricular music classes are required to participate in the concert as a portion of their music grade. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the concert and must arrive at the church by 5:00 pm on the evening of their concert. If your students are participating in the concert, they received detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert. Please reach out to Dr. Bookhout (tbookhout@glendaleprep.org) if you have questions about this concert.

Dress Code Reminder

Please check skirt and pant lengths; some of our students have grown and the skirt and pants are then too short.  A skirt should not be shorter than two inches above the knee and pants should reach the bottom of the ankle. An infraction will be issued for skirts and pants that are too short. Please either re-hem the items or purchase new ones. Detentions are issued after three infractions. Thank you for your help with dress code compliance!

Thank You for Giving!

Thank you to all the families who gave so generously on Giving Tuesday and throughout the year! You rallied in support of Glendale Prep’s Community Investment campaign. Your care and commitment to Glendale Prep is a blessing to our students, teachers, and staff.  Your gifts to Community Investment are what keeps our doors open!  If you have yet to be a part of Community Investment, it’s not too late, CLICK HERE TO GIVE Thank you!

Robotics Competition

This Saturday, our two newest robotics teams, the Innovators and Plastic Robot Makers, are competing in their end of season competition at MetroTech High School down in Central Phoenix in the FIRST Lego League Challenge Competition. This is our first year having specifically middle school teams and our first year competing in FLL. They will be presenting their project to a panel of judges and competing against other teams with a programmed robot to solve missions. All are welcome to attend. Matches will be taking place between 1 pm and 4 pm.

Open Enrollment- NEW Families Only

College Counseling

PSAT SCORES are available and can be viewed on a student’s personal College Board account. If a student provided their mobile number during the PSAT exam set up, they will receive a text message with access to the BigFuture School mobile app where they can also view their score. Please utilize your Khan Academy account for free practice tests.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will take place at Scottsdale Prep in the spring and are open to all high school students who wish to self-study and sit for an exam. Please note that AP exams are not part of our curriculum, nor is there an expectation from colleges that our students report AP scores.

2.       Student logs-in to their College Board account and input the ‘active join code’ found on the Configio site when they paid for the exam.
