A Note From Headmaster

Greetings Parents,

With Thanksgiving approaching, I find myself, of course, thinking about the virtue of gratitude in myself, but mainly in my children. I woke up early this past Sunday to make blueberry muffins for the family (don’t be impressed; it was from a box :), and I decided rather than making the standard dozen, I would add more batter, so I would have seven gloriously huge muffins.

One son came in and saw the muffins and his first words were, “Only 7, that means we don’t get 2” (We have 4 children). Another son came in shortly after and begrudgingly said, “Dad, why are they so big?”

Of course, I became frustrated because they were the most amazing muffins ever. However, I used the opportunity to discuss what it means to have a heart of gratitude. This virtue appears to be missing today, or maybe it always has been missing in our culture and I am now noticing it as a parent. I see it missing in others; I see it missing in myself.

I am sure many of you have participated in the tradition of going around the table on Thanksgiving and naming what you are thankful for, but I truly hope we can instill in our children the idea of finding ways to be thankful every day. This will only take place if we ourselves model a heart of gratitude. I must confess that it is something I need to improve upon.

I am thankful for all of you, for your children, and for our wonderful faculty and staff. It is a blessing to spend each day in our loving community. I look forward to the break and wish you and yours a memorable Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Open Enrollment
Do you know families that would like to attend a Great Hearts school? Students not yet attending Glendale Prep or another Great Hearts school, who would like to join next school year, must complete an application online. Open Enrollment is available until December 12th. Open Enrollment provides the best chance for families to receive an offer if they did not roll over a waitlist application. We believe in the formation and cultivation of hearts and minds. Share this link if you’d like to grow this type of education as well. GP weekly tours are also always available for those families by signing up on the GP website.

Please note, if your student currently attends Glendale Prep, you do not need to do anything at this time. Re-enrollment for current students will be done in the spring.

Community Investment
Glendale Prep believes in the importance of a thorough immersion in music for our students. We believe that music instruction is an education in beauty. Through their experiences of performing classic works of music and understanding music theory, our students experience the discipline and humility that true creativity requires. Please join us at this year’s Winter Concert!

It is through your gifts to Community Investment that we are able to offer music to our students. We are honored to publicly recognize those families and friends who have already contributed to Glendale Prep’s Community Investment campaign. THANK YOU! Please click here for a listing of our 2019-20 Community Investment campaign donors as of November 25th, 2019.
