A Note From Headmaster
Hello Parents,
I am very much looking forward to this short break to have time to rest and reflect on the blessings in my life. When one is exhausted, it may seem unnatural to think of anything other than rest, but I find myself motivated to keep pressing forward with a sense of gratitude. This is not common for me; usually, when I am exhausted, I seem to resent that which has made me exhausted and can only think of a way to find rest and peace. I am by no means perfect and can falter at times; Mrs. Navarrette certainly sees my frustration or lack of patience come out (I am working on it daily). Even when it appears otherwise, I am truly grateful for all the blessings in my life. Gratitude is a virtue, and it takes maturity and dedication to be virtuous.
The famous orator, Cicero, said it best- In truth, O judges, while I wish to be adorned with every virtue, yet there is nothing which I can esteem more highly than the being and appearing grateful. For this one virtue is not only the greatest, but is also the parent of all the other virtues.
Our lives are very different than they were on Thanksgiving a year ago but let the tradition of thanksgiving reign supreme in our hearts not merely on Thursday but every day. We have so much to be thankful for during this time. I am thankful for all of you and pray that you too find rest with a spirit of gratitude this Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette

Community Investment
It is not difficult to be inspired by our students. The hearts of our scholars show themselves every day in a multitude of ways. The best part of my job is being on campus and observing our GP culture in action. During Spirit Week I spied a locker with a poem that I simply must share. Mihaela Ursu, a spirited sixth grader, wrote:
“We have cultivated hearts and minds,
We have two colors, our uniformity
Navy for confidence, power, and authority,
And gold to symbolize how bright we shine.
We work as a team,
To realize our dreams
We have ups and downs,
But we still keep our crowns.
We have great academics,
And we will survive the pandemic,
We mean truth, goodness, and beauty
And our mascot is a griffin.
WE ARE GP!!!”
As a fellow parent, my heart overflows each time I see our students embrace our culture and truly become a Great Hearts Student! That our students would write poems, paint, create art, and express their love of Glendale Prep on a locker is a testament to the strength of our GP culture. Thank you, scholars, for inspiring those around you to be Great Hearted!
What keeps our doors open for our young scholars? Community Investment! Truly, the gifts we receive through Community Investment enable our teachers to do the good work they do each and every day. We invite you to be a part of something great and support our school through Community Investment. If you have already given to Community Investment, we thank you! If you have yet to give, simply click here. Thank you for supporting our Great Hearted scholars!
PSO Snowstorm is Here!
GP’s Parent Service Organization (PSO) holds this annual event as a way to collectively show our parents’ deep appreciation for the faculty at Glendale Prep. PSO collects all donations and divides them evenly. Checks are presented to the faculty as an amazing gift before the holiday break. We encourage families to donate in lieu of individual gifts for teachers and staff. Donations can be made online at http://www.gpapo.org/shop/. The last day to contribute is December 15th.
College Counseling
- ACE PROGRAM: Offered through Maricopa Community Colleges, this program assists students in the transition from high school to college. Applications for this program are done during sophomore year of high school. Follow this LINK for more information regarding this program.
- JUNIORS: Please be sure to read the College 101 email sent to all families this past Wednesday. Make sure to “save the dates” for each applicable session. You can also find this information in the College Counseling: Class of 2022 Google Classroom. Our first session is Friday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m., and all junior students should plan on participating via Zoom. Students will need to complete pre-work assignments for this session and will find it posted in the Google Classroom next week.
- SENIORS: Make sure you have completed the FAFSA as soon as possible. Colleges and universities utilize this form to determine financial aid and many require it on file to distribute merit aid scholarships. A select few colleges and universities also require the CSS Profile to be completed. Make sure you know what each school requires and their deadlines.

Military Identifier (Optional)
The adoption of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) recognizes military-connected students, such as students with a parent on active military duty. The Military Student Identifier (MSI) questions listed below, will provide educators with critical information to personalize attention for military dependent children. Parents/Guardians may decline to respond to these voluntary questions. If a parent/guardian declines, the answer will be marked as a “no.” Parents/Guardians will not be asked to verify their military status by showing a military identification or other DOD documentation.
If questions below apply to your student, please click here, which will notify Mrs. Hayakawa of your student’s name and the question(s) you are responding “yes” to so that Glendale Prep can accurately update the information in their system as needed.
· Is the student a dependent of a member of the United States military service in the Active Duty Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard?
· Is the student a dependent of a full-time member of the National Guard, or Reserve Force of the United States Military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force.)
· Is the student a dependent of a member of the National Guard, or Reserve Force of the United States Military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force.)
We ask that all families respond no later than Monday, November 30th. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your academy directly. |
