A Note From Headmaster

Greetings Parents,

I wanted to share again an opportunity for you to have coffee with Mr. Withers and myself, followed by classroom observations, and a time of sharing what is on your mind. We have had two “Coffees with the Headmaster”, and both have been beneficial to gain parent perspective. We have slots for seven parents to attend each coffee, so please consider joining us. You can click here for the remaining dates available.

Lastly, if you have not done so already, please complete the parent pulse survey that was sent to your email. There are three questions, and you click choices. It should take no more than 2 minutes and can be completed from your phone.

Have a good weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

NO PARKING
Parents, it is important we are always kind and considerate of our neighborhood community by assuring that we do not park on private property or block residential driveways. I want to know that our faculty, staff, parents, and students are appreciated by our neighbors and seen as a blessing rather than a frustration.

Parking on some restricted streets will not result in a simple traffic citation but is deemed criminal trespassing given they are private property. Please remember, that parents should never park on Planada Ln, Camino De Oro,  82nd Drive, or on Electra Ln. Parents may park in our school lot or can park South of the community park that is located caddy-corner to the school.

8th Grade Drama Production
Come see 8C and 8D each perform The Snow Queen on Tuesday, November 26th. Both productions will take place in the Glendale Prep gymnasium. The performances are free to the public, and we encourage you to bring friends and family. Come see what students have been working on all quarter, and prepare to delight in their wonderful performance. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Fendler at afendler@glendaleprep.org.

*8C students must arrive by 4:00 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 5:00 p.m.
*8D students must arrive by 6:15 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:00 p.m.

Quarter 2 Deficiencies
Quarter 2 deficiencies were sent out this week via email. GP teachers take the time to detail areas of concern and specific areas needing improvement. If your student received a Deficiency Notice, please sign and return the notice with your student. Teachers are always available to help students during tutoring hours. Click here to view the updated tutoring schedule.

Archway Families
Families with current Archway Glendale 5th graders: Click here to apply now to attend 6th grade at Glendale Prep for the 2020-2021 school year! If you do not submit an application, your child will not have a seat at Glendale Prep for the next school year. If you have any questions, please email Archway Glendale’s Office Manager, Ms. Mobley, at emobley@archwayglendale.org or Glendale Prep’s Office Manager, Mrs. Hayakawa, at shayakawa@glendaleprep.org. (There is no action required for students currently attending GP at this time.)

Forgotten Items
Parents, please remind your son/daughter to come to school prepared for the school day with lunch, homework, books, and pick-up arrangements. If your son/daughter does forget an item, they should check the shelf in the front office to see if an item was dropped off. If not, they can ask permission to call home. Calling home should be a rare occurrence that only happens once or twice a year. Thank you for your partnership and support.

PSO Corner
Harkins Ultimate Fundraiser: Purchase your 2020 Harkins Loyalty cups, and popcorn perks all while raising money for our school! Glendale Prep receives a portion back from every sale so be sure and purchase these for your family, friends, and co-workers. They make great Holiday gifts! All purchases are fulfilled with vouchers that will be sent home with your student the week of Dec. 9th. Wednesday, November 27th is the last day to purchase; click here to make your purchase now.

Shop with Scrips: GP has partnered with Scrips in which gift cards can be purchased for over 100 retailers and a portion of each sale gives a rebate of up to 14% back to the school. See the list of retailers here and submit your order using this form and send it to the school by Monday, December 2nd. Orders will be available for pick up on Friday, December 13th.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch: GP teachers and staff thoroughly enjoy the Teacher Appreciation Lunches. Sign-ups are available for the Friday, December 6th lunch at 2019/2020 Teacher Appreciation Lunch Sign Up.

Snowstorm: Snowstorm is coming soon! Each year, the Glendale Prep PSO helps coordinate the effort to show your appreciation to our wonderful teachers and staff during the holiday season. We will be collecting monetary donations from December 1st through December 19th.  But if you’d like to donate online now, and get an item off your holiday to-do list, you can donate using this link. Donations will be pooled, divided, and presented to faculty and staff as an amazing gift before the holiday break. We encourage families to participate, as this donation is meant to be in lieu of individual holiday gifts for our teachers and staff.

France June 2020
Do you want to eat a croissant in a cafe with a view on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, chase Marie-Antoinette’s ghost in the Palais of Versailles, feel like a Lord walking in the castles of la Loire, or see the beaches of Normandy where the American and English troops arrived in 1944 to liberate France and Europe?

The French trip will take place in June 2020. Spots are still available! Don’t miss this opportunity!

Education Tours (EF) is now giving up to 100 students across the country $1,000 off their tours through their annual Global Citizen Scholarship Fund. Applications are now being accepted, and winners will be selected based on need and merit. Learn more about qualifying here or at 800-637-8222 for details.

12th Grade Drama Production
Join 6th Period Senior Drama for an afternoon of romance, wordplay, duels, and mistaken identity in The Rivals by Richard Brinsley Sheridan on Saturday, December 7th at 2:30 p.m. Lydia has romantic notions of defying her family and marrying for love, so the dashing and wealthy Captain Absolute must pretend to be a penniless soldier to win her heart. But when his father and her aunt arrange a marriage, can their love withstand the trials of respectability and parental approval? Admission is free, and all are welcome.

*6th Period students must arrive by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the performance for warm-up. Dress rehearsal is Wednesday, December 4th, from 3:15 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Please contact Mrs. LeTrent with any questions.

Open Enrollment
Do you know families that would like to attend a Great Hearts school? Students not yet attending Glendale Prep or another Great Hearts school, who would like to join next school year, must complete an application online. Open Enrollment is available until December 12th. Open Enrollment provides the best chance for families to receive an offer if they did not roll over a waitlist application. We believe in the formation and cultivation of hearts and minds. Share this link if you’d like to grow this type of education as well. GP weekly tours are also always available for those families by signing up on the GP website.

Please note, if your student currently attends Glendale Prep, you do not need to do anything at this time. Re-enrollment for current students will be done in the spring.

Annual Tax Credit Contest
OUR ANNUAL TAX CREDIT CONTEST IS BACK! It’s that time of year…GP needs your Tax Credit, plus two more! Ask family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to support your student by redirecting their tax dollars to Glendale Prep. They will receive a dollar-for-dollar credit off their Arizona State Taxes!

The grade that brings in the most Tax Credits will win an ice cream party and spirit wear day!

The student who brings in the most Tax Credits will win a catered lunch and a GP swag bag!
Contest ends midnight, December 31st, 2019. To contribute, go to the Glendale Prep website or click here to download the form.

Parent Education Night
On Thursday, December 5th, Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep will host a Parent Education Night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Archway multipurpose room. The focus will be on Stress and Coping in Students. Lauren Katz, Great Hearts Director of School Counseling, will be on campus to talk about what stress is and what it looks like during different developmental stages. Find out what is “typical” for students, and how stress can affect a student’s daily life. The goal will be to increase knowledge about stress and coping, provide insight into symptoms, and build skills to support students in managing their feelings.
