A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Families,

We invite you to join us in celebrating our academy on November 28th for #GivingTuesday. This day of giving was created to focus on doing good for our wonderful community after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. We very much hope you and your family enjoy the break and cherish your time together.

The education we provide for our students at Glendale Prep does not and cannot take place without your partnership. To the parents who already graciously support our community in a number of ways, particularly through Community Investment, thank you. On #GivingTuesday, our intent is to fulfill a goal of $15,000. Please consider making a gift that is feasible and meaningful to your family during this season of giving. You can give by clicking here or by connecting with Tammy Kempton, our Family Giving and Community Engagement Officer, at tkempton@glendaleprep.org.

Thank you for your trust,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Student Drop-off and Pick-up Reminder

Please remember students are not to be dropped-off or picked-up on Pinnacle Peak Rd. On Wednesday, a local sheriff stopped by and asked that we share with families that our neighbors have raised a concern about students exiting cars on Pinnacle Peak and littering. We were also informed they will be patrolling the area during busy times and will be ticketing. Please partner with us to be the best neighbors possible.

Winter Concerts

This year, our Winter Concerts will be on two separate nights – the Instrumental Concert (7th and 8th grade music classes, Jazz Band and Orchestra) will be on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:30 pm, while the Vocal Music Concert (9th and 10th grade music classes and all extra-curricular choirs) will be on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm. Both concerts will be held at Haven Church in Glendale (5902 W Cactus Rd, Glendale, AZ 85304). Students must provide their own transportation the evening of the concert and must arrive at the church by 5:00 pm on the evening of their concert. All students in curricular music classes are required to participate in the concert as a portion of their music grade. If your students are participating in the concert, they will receive detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert, but we also encourage all students and families to come to hear these fine performers share their musical gifts with you.

High School Epic Cycle: The Odyssey

GP High School students are invited to join us TONIGHT, Friday, November 17th-18th for our overnight Epic Cycle! Doors will open Friday at 7:00 PM. There will be a campfire reading of The Odyssey, plus pizza, snacks, games, and skits. The cost for this event is $25 on the portal HERE before 6:00 PM TONIGHT, November 17th. Parents of latecomers or students who have not paid on the portal must sign a permission form and pay $35 (cash ONLY) at the door.

Night of the Event:

College Counseling

PSAT SCORES are available and can be viewed on a student’s personal College Board account. If a student provided their mobile number during the PSAT exam set up, they will receive a text message with access to the BigFuture School mobile app where they can also view their score.

A PRACTICE ACT will be held on Saturday, December 2nd, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Glendale Prep. After taking the test, students will receive a score report; a College Counselor will compare their ACT score with their estimated SAT score (derived from your child’s October PSAT score) to help determine if your student has an affinity toward one test over the other (ACT vs. SAT). If you are interested, please sign up HERE. The cost is $10.00. Please bring cash to the practice test on December 2nd. The deadline to register is Thursday, November 30th at 5:00 pm.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will take place at Scottsdale Prep in the spring and are open to all high school students who wish to self-study and sit for an exam. Please note that AP exams are not part of our curriculum, nor is there an expectation from colleges that our students report AP scores.

Registration is a two-part process:

1.       Students/parents go to Scottsdale Prep’s Configio to select and pay for exam.

2.       Student logs-in to their College Board account and input the ‘active join code’ found on the Configio site when they paid for the exam.

The cost is $138.00 per exam by March 1st, 2024. Participants should bring non-mechanical number two pencils and a personal calculator to the exam.

Athletic Eligibility

GP Athletics is continuously striving for excellence in all we do. As a student-athlete, it is important that you feel both supported and encouraged as a student first. Success in the classroom is not easily achieved: it requires effort and discipline on all levels. This year, GP Athletics will continue our grade and eligibility process. Please click HERE and save a copy to easily access this information for the remainder of the season. Mr. Kontak and the coaching staff will inform families of all eligibility decisions and disciplines.
