A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

This headmaster portion will be brief. Our annual information night is Tuesday, November 16th. We have about seventy families signed up to learn about Glendale Prep for the first time. Many families have been on our waitlist for years, so this is a special night to share about what we do and what we love. I have asked Mr. Yost to present about what it means to be a classical, liberal arts, and preparatory school. I thought you would enjoy reading what he plans to share with future families of our community. Please click HERE.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

High School Epic Cycle

This year’s High School Epic Cycle is an all-night reading of Norse myths interspersed with activity, games, snacks, and time with friends. Please sign up through our payment portal HERE. See below for details:

Time: 6:30pm, Friday, November 19 through 7:00am, Saturday, November 20
Place: Glendale Prep (enter through courtyard)
Cost: $20 per student

Notes: High school students only. Since this is an all-night event, students should bring sleeping bags, pillows, etc. if they intend on getting sleep at some point during the event. Pizza and breakfast will be provided.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be this Wednesday, November 17th. Retakes are only for students who purchased pictures and did not like them OR students who were absent on picture day. If you received pictures and are unhappy with redness or lighting, but otherwise like the pictures, you DO NOT need retakes. Simply return the pictures to the front office and Duke will adjust the color and/or lighting.

If you purchased pictures and would like to have them redone you MUST return the original picture package on retake day to receive a new package after retakes.

Please help us minimize time out of class by letting us know that your child will be participating in picture retakes. Only students who are signed up on the Sign-Up Genius HERE will be pulled from class. Please indicate your child’s name in the “comments” section.

If you cannot find the email with the link sent by Duke Photography please contact them directly at 602-265-2605.

ACT Practice Test

Attention Sophomores and Juniors! GP is offering an opportunity to take a practice ACT test on Saturday, December 4th, 8:00 am at noon. After taking the test students will receive a score report; a College Counselor will compare that score with the estimated SAT score (derived from your child’s October PSAT score) to help determine if your student has an affinity toward one test over the other. If you are interested, please sign up HERE. The cost is $10.00. Please bring cash to the practice test on December 4th.

Community Investment

Celebrate Thanksgiving!  Black Friday.  Cyber Monday.  #GivingTuesday!  On November 30th, communities worldwide will open their hearts to celebrate and support non-profits.  Please join Glendale Prep in this celebration by first, sharing what you are grateful for on social media, and second, by giving to Community Investment.  Glendale Prep relies on your partnership in this important campaign to support things like teacher salaries, classroom textbooks, and keeping our lights on.  If you have yet to give to this year’s Community Investment campaign, we encourage you to connect with us on #GivingTuesday to make a one-time or monthly gift of a meaningful amount.  Be a part of something great!

Operation Clean-Up: Thank You!

A huge thank you to all students and families who showed up last Saturday to actively be part of the Operation Clean-Up in the neighborhood organized by The Forces of Nature and the Student’s Community Service committee. It was a beautiful and successful day filled with joy and a warm feeling of community. Our students will now practice cross-country in a cleaner environment.

Winter Concert

As a reminder, all 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students currently taking Music this semester are required to participate in the Winter Concert Tuesday, December 7th at Haven Church (formerly Glendale Nazarene Church) 5902 W Cactus Rd. The Middle School concert begins at 5:30 pm and the High School concert begins at 7:00 pm. Students must provide their own transportation the evening of the concert and middle school students must arrive at the church by 4:30 pm to warm-up and get into position. High school students must arrive at the church by 5:55 pm.

Rehearsal for the Winter Concert will take place during the school day on Monday, December 6th. Specific information will be sent home with those classes prior to the rehearsal. Permission slips were signed on the parent portal with consumables at the beginning of the school year.
