A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Families,

What a wonderful week full of SPIRIT! We started the week with our High School Symposium. Students were then festive and energized as we approached our cross-country race and volleyball game on Wednesday; we won. And now we look forward to a home football game tonight! Tonight is Homecoming, and I hope everyone can make it! There is something special about coming back home, knowing you are part of a community.

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be Thursday, October 27th. Retakes are only for students who purchased pictures and did not like them OR students who were absent on picture day. You were sent a direct link by Duke to view your pictures. You can also view them HERE using your child’s student number (found on his or her report card) as the online code.

Please help us minimize time out of class by letting us know that your child will be participating in picture retakes. Only students who were absent on picture day or are signed up on the Sign-Up Genius HEREwill be pulled from class. Please indicate your child’s name in the “Student Name” section.

If you have questions or cannot find the email with the link sent by Duke Photography please contact them directly at 602-265-2605.

Griffin Players to Present Once Upon a Mattress

Join the Griffin Players for the fall musical, Once Upon a Mattress; it is The Princess and the Pea like you have never seen it before! In a kingdom long ago and far away, Prince Dauntless is having a hard time finding the perfect marriage partner. The search is made more difficult by his mother’s exacting standards and impossible tests. Enter Princess Winnifred! Come enjoy a medieval romp complete with singing, dancing, and magic tricks with our talented cast of students and faculty. Performances will be at the Maryvale Prep theatre, 4825 W Camelback Road, Phoenix AZ, 85031 and will take place on Friday November 4th at 7:30pm and Saturday November 5th at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for everyone else HERE on the payment portal and at the door.

PSAT 10th & 11th Grades

Each fall Glendale Preparatory Academy provides all sophomores and juniors the opportunity to take the PSAT test, which is a predictor test for the SAT.  For juniors it is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship competition.  Although only scores from the junior year are considered for the National Merit Scholarship competition, we also offer it for sophomores.  Taking the PSAT is a good opportunity for students to become familiar with both the PSAT and the SAT.  This year the PSAT test will be administered on Tuesday, October 25 at 8:05 am.

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) brings a small snack, (4) arrives to school on time, and (5) has no appointments scheduled before noon.  Additionally, please have him/her bring: (1) extra sharpened #2 pencils and (2) a calculator.

Sophomore Privilege

Sophomores at Glendale Prep earn the privilege of wearing the Glendale Prep tie as a part of their school uniform, and are presented with their GP tie during the Annual Blazer Ceremony in November. Ties are $25 and are available to purchase HERE on the payment portal for both male and female students in 10th-12th grade. 10th grade students will receive their ties at the Blazer Ceremony; 11th and 12th grade students will get their ties from the front office. The payment portal for this item will close on Monday, October 31st at midnight.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Mooberry at JMooberry@glendaleprep.org.

Forces of Nature Enrichment

The first meeting of the Enrichment course “The Forces of Nature” will take place on Monday October 24th at 3:20 pm in room 408. Please make sure to register on the payment portal HERE before that date.

For further information please contact Madame Cognet-Pereira at ccognet-pereira@glendaleprep.org.

Dress Code Reminders

Please check your child’s uniform to make sure it still fits.  We are noticing both skirts and pants that are too short. Hair for our gentlemen needs to be above the eyebrows and ears and above the collar.  Ladies’ nails need to barely extend over the end of the finger; longer nails do not meet our dress code requirements.

Community Investment

Monday’s Symposium on Cry, The Beloved Country with guest speaker, Ms. Henrich.

The level of education offered at Glendale Prep makes us one of the most sought-after schools in Arizona, and Community Investment is the most important way your family can support this great work!  Your family’s yearly commitment to Community Investment significantly impacts our students and helps us bridge the gap between what we receive from state funding versus the actual cost to run our school.  As you know, we start each school year with a $1,500 per student deficit from what public schools receive in funding.  We ask all our families to help us bridge this gap by giving to Community Investment with an amount that is meaningful to you.  Every dollar makes a difference!

We are honored to publicly recognize those families and friends who have contributed to this year’s 2022-23 Community Investment campaign. Please click here  for a listing of current donors as of October 20, 2022.

If you have yet to make a gift to this year’s 2022-23 Community Investment campaign:

Glendale Prep is a wonderful place for children to grow, and Community Investment makes that growth possible!  Thank you for supporting our school!
