A NOTE FROM THE HEADMASTER

Dear Glendale Prep Families,

Welcome back to the second quarter! I hope your fall break brought rest and renewal to your families. As we turn the page into the second quarter of the school year, I want to extend my gratitude to all who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences. These moments of partnership, when we come together to discuss your children’s growth, challenges, and triumphs, are essential to the flourishing of our students and the strength of our community. Thank you for your continued engagement and support.

This past Wednesday, our high school students gathered for one of the most meaningful academic traditions here at GP: the Glendale Preparatory Symposium. This all-high school conversation centered on Frankenstein, a text that reaches deeply into questions of knowledge, creation, responsibility, and love.

As I shared with students in our closing session, the morning’s discussions were more than academic. They were moral and spiritual in nature, an invitation to think deeply about what it means to be human. Students wrestled with questions such as: Why was Victor Frankenstein so driven to uncover “the secrets of heaven and earth”? What does it mean to give life, to bear responsibility for what we make, or to remain silent when truth could save another?

Through these conversations, our students practiced the work of both intellect and heart, learning to see clearly and feel deeply. They touched on wonder, ambition, loneliness, and the longing to be known and loved. This is the kind of education we strive to offer: one that sharpens the mind, deepens compassion, and cultivates wisdom.

As I reminded them, “the work you’ve done today is not only academic, it is moral and spiritual.” When our students read great works and take their questions seriously, they grow in understanding and in humanity. A well-read mind becomes a well-experienced mind… and from experience comes wisdom, and from wisdom, happiness.

Thank you for the many ways you support this formation, from attending conferences to encouraging your students in their studies and conversations at home. Together, we continue to pursue what is true, good, and beautiful.

Warmly,
Mrs. Janssen

FINAL EXAMS

Final exams are a culmination of the material students have learned through the entirety of the first semester and account for 10% of a student’s final grade in each course.  Please schedule appointments and vacations outside of the final exam testing window.

Students who miss a final exam due to illness with a doctor’s note will make up any missed final exams in January, on a given date. Unexcused absences or illness without a doctor’s note will result in the score of a zero for any missed final exam.
