A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I am sure you have heard about House at some point in the school year. Students are certainly excited about the House Cup, striving to win various events at Field Day, and showing energy during Spirit Week. However, that is only part of the vision for our House System. Another goal is for students to share time together to encourage and support one another both directly and indirectly. Seniors take on a leadership role in each Kin, sharing about their experience at Glendale Prep. All students grow by seeing one next to him or her, partaking in self-reflection and goalsetting.

In this week’s House meeting, the students did the following:

1. Read and discussed a poem. The poem contained a theme/focus of gathering perspective

2. Set personal goals for Semester II

3. Made paper cranes as part of a tradition of wishes coming true; we turned this into a House competition for both quality and quantity of the cranes

4. Lastly, all students enjoyed a sweet treat

Each House meeting takes time, energy, and so much logistics…but it is so worth the student and teacher experience. We must be intentional about these little moments where students find they are known and loved at Glendale Prep.

Have a nice weekend,

Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Reallocate $400 of your Arizona Tax Bill to Glendale Prep

It is Glendale Prep’s mission to bring up Great-Hearted scholars who learn and develop not only through academics, but also through their involvement in sports, enrichment courses, field trips, and other character building programs.  These programs build courage, wisdom, responsibility, integrity, perseverance, humility, and leadership in our students.  Your Tax Credit contribution makes this possible!  Remember, when you give your Arizona State Tax Credit to GP, you will receive your contribution back through a dollar-for-dollar credit off your Arizona State tax bill.  Please click here to make your gift today, or schedule your gift to process any time before April 15, 2022.  If you have already given your tax credit for this year, thank you!  We encourage you to ask family, friends, and co-workers to join you in supporting Glendale Prep.  They too will receive a $400 credit off their Arizona State tax return.  Go Griffins!

Robotics

This Saturday, January 29th, at Brophy College Preparatory Campus in Central Phoenix, the two robotics teams at Glendale Prep, Unscheduled Disassembly (#18421) and Metal Masters (#18420) are competing in a First Tech Challenge qualifying tournament.  Each season there is a new game revealed where each team designs, builds, programs, and tests a robot.  The matches begin at 10:30 am and end around 2-2:30 pm with a break around 12:30 pm for lunch.  It is free and open to the public, though masks will be required for all participants and spectators.  The teams would appreciate any support.  A live stream of the event can be found at this link.  A combined YouTube channel can be found here.  A twitter page with some pictures and videos of our progress can be found here.  Please contact Mr. Roper at broper@glendaleprep.org with any questions.

If your student has interest in joining the team in the next season, watch for information in the Blast post- season.

Study Buddy and SII Tutoring Schedule

With increased illness and absences, it is so important for students to have a study buddy. This is a classmate who can share about homework assignments or pertinent information that was covered in class. We want our students to take personal responsibility for reaching out directly to a study buddy. This is the first step. There are certainly situations where a student can reach out directly to a teacher by email or find time to meet with a teacher upon the student’s return to school. Teachers are aware of the increased number of absences and are working to be patient when it comes to make-up work. If your child needs assistance in finding a study buddy, please contact Mr. Yost at myost@glendaleprep.org.

The semester II tutoring schedule has been finalized. Students should note time changes and room changes.  Attending tutoring is a great opportunity for a student to check in about what was covered in class and obtain necessary make-up work if the student was unable to connect with a study buddy. HERE is a link to download the Semester II Tutoring Schedule.
