A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Parents, This coming Wednesday, all parents will receive a mid-quarter progress report for their child. This report will display a student’s current overall grade in each class and will also include a letter grade breakdown for categories that are calculated in the overall grade. Beginning this Tuesday and over the course of the next two weeks, some parents will receive a deficiency notice, which will detail both how their child has become deficient in a class, as well as list ways their child can improve in class to move out of deficiency. A student is deficient if he or she has a current grade of a D or an F. While grades are not the first and only thing we want on a student’s mind, we understand that grades are extremely important. We encourage students to meet with a teacher before school, after school, during Lunch/Lyceum, or at tutoring to discuss grades, progress in class, and ways to improve. Please do remind your child that when it comes to questions regarding grades, we want to have a conversation rather than simply sharing a letter grade, so that the student walks away understanding the particulars that go into that grade. We also want students to leave the conversations with concrete takeaways they can implement over the rest of the quarter. We believe the mid-quarter progress report will help foster meaningful and effective conversations about grades.
