A Note from the Headmaster
Greetings, It was and is an eventful second full week of school. In only a few hours, we will have our first home football game where we anticipate over 400 spectators coming out to support our Griffins. Yesterday, faculty and students gathered in Moyes Gym for our Beginning Year Assembly. Senior Chloe Moore spoke about the beauty of community, while Mrs. LeTrent reminded students that a liberal arts education frees us to wonder and grow together. Middle school athletics began this week; I learned that we have over 275 of our 630 students participating in a sport with another 100 students joining an extracurricular enrichment course. The last two and a half weeks have been a wonderful start to the school year. Our pickup has been going smoothly, and that is a testament to all of you for helping to work together to have a safe and efficient dismissal. Next week is Curriculum Night. I am excited to see all of you there. Sincerely, Time with the Headmaster Join us for an opportunity to spend time with Mr. Navarrette and other members of the administration, and be a guest in the classroom. Please sign up HERE and bring any questions you have. This event is for adults only. We look forward to seeing you! Forgotten Items Reminder Please remember that we do not deliver notes to student lockers or call classrooms for forgotten items, except in case of emergency. Students know to check the bookshelf in the front office if they have forgotten something (lunch, books, homework, water bottles etc.); it has been regularly in the announcements and you can also remind them of our policy at home. We encourage students to grow in patience, discipline, and responsibility by being prepared with all school items, including lunches, each day. Be assured, snacks are available in the front office if there is one day your student forgets lunch. We do not accept any food deliveries from third party vendors (ie: Door Dash, Grubhub). Study Skills Workshop Glendale Prep’s study skills workshop will be held TOMORROW, Saturday, August 19 from 8:15am to 11:30am in the courtyard classrooms. This workshop is highly recommended for 6th graders and new students, but all GP students are welcome to join. Students must wear their school uniform. There will be four 45-minute sessions taught by Glendale Prep teachers:
Students should attend the workshop with one parent. The cost for each student/parent pair is $20 ($30 for multiple siblings attending with a parent). Please use THIS LINK to make this payment through the Glendale Prep payment portal. If you pay after 6:30AM tomorrow (Saturday) be prepared to show your receipt. Tutoring Each of your students’ teachers will provide weekly tutoring sessions. You can find the tutoring schedule HERE and can always be found at the bottom of the Weekly Blast and linked on our website under the Academics tab. Senior Trip Payment Payment options for the Senior Trip are up and running on the payment portal! Be on the lookout for an email with more information coming tomorrow. Please use THIS link for replacement. Athletic Eligibility GP Athletics is continuously striving for excellence in all we do. As a student-athlete, it is important that you feel both supported and encouraged as a student first. Success in the classroom is not easily achieved: it requires effort and discipline on all levels. This year, GP Athletics will continue our grade and eligibility process. Please click HERE and save a copy to easily access this information for the remainder of the season. Mr. Kontak and the coaching staff will inform families of all eligibility decisions and disciplines. My name is Kyle Navarrette, and I have been part of the Great Hearts community for nearly a decade; this is my sixth year as Headmaster at GP. It is an honor and a blessing to lead our wonderful teachers and staff and to see the growth and maturity our students develop over the course of each school year. Your choice and trust are invaluable to me and are a testament to our partnership. Additionally, your generosity to support our community financially reminds me each year that GP is indeed a special place! I want to sincerely thank the families who have already chosen to partner with us by making a gift to Community Investment and Tax Credit this year. If you have not yet given, please consider giving this year, no matter what the amount, through a monthly gift to Community Investment and by designating your Public School Tax Credit to our academy. Your generosity is a testament to your love and partnership. Again, I cannot thank you enough for choosing Glendale Prep. I am excited to share another school year together. Sincerely, College Counseling THANK YOU to the seniors and their families who attended Senior Night this past Tuesday.
