A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

Trust is the foundation for any meaningful relationship. Trust between individuals or groups does not mean there will always be agreement or an absence of conflict. In fact, when there is disagreement and conflict, even sprinkled with frustration, trust enables all things to work together for good. Our faculty has been given the book, The Speed of Trust, to read and discuss together this school year (along with East of Eden, which is full of broken promises; it is such a gem!). There are different kinds of trust- trusting one’s moral integrity, one’s competency, or trusting that someone cares personally about you. My hope this school year is that we can honor your choice in Glendale Prep by striving to earn your trust, if you are new to us, or reaffirm that trust. Please reach out to me, my front office, my leadership team, our teachers, and staff if you have any questions or want to better understand what we do and why we do it. You can even sign up for “Time with the Headmaster” via the link below to join other parents for a discussion with me along with classroom observations.

We are partners, and it is through a partnership built on trust that our children’s time at Glendale Prep will not only be academically enriching, but will also shape their hearts for a life of seeking goodness in service to others.

It was a great first full week of school. Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Time with the Headmaster

Join us for an opportunity to spend time with Mr. Navarrette and other members of the administration, and be a guest in the classroom. Please sign up HERE and bring any questions you have. This event is for adults only. We look forward to seeing you!

Half-Day Wednesdays: Pickup Reminder

Half-Day pickup begins at 12:20pm every Wednesday. Remember that your student is in his or her classroom until 12:15pm; please do not arrive before 12:20pm.

Forgotten Items Reminder

Please remember that we do not deliver notes to student lockers or call classrooms for forgotten items, except in case of emergency. Students know to check the bookshelf in the front office if they have forgotten something (lunch, books, homework, water bottles etc.); it has been regularly in the announcements and you can also remind of them of our policy at home. We encourage students to grow in patience, discipline, and responsibility by being prepared with all school items, including lunches, each day. Be assured, snacks are available in the front office if there is one day your student forgets lunch. We do not accept any food deliveries from third party vendors (ie: Door Dash, Grubhub).

Study Skills Workshop

Glendale Prep’s study skills workshop will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the courtyard classrooms. This workshop is highly recommended for 6th graders and new students, but all GP students are welcome to join. Students must wear their school uniform.

There will be four 45-minute sessions taught by Glendale Prep teachers:

  1. Organization and Time Management
  2. Reading and Annotating
  3. Note-Taking and Test Preparation
  4. Homework and Projects

Students should attend the workshop with one parent. The cost for each student/parent pair is $20 ($30 for multiple siblings attending with a parent). Please use THIS LINK to make this payment through the Glendale Prep payment portal.

Tutoring

Each of your students’ teachers will provide weekly tutoring sessions. You can find the tutoring schedule HERE and can always be found at the bottom of the Weekly Blast and linked on our website under the Academics tab

Instrumental Performing Ensembles

Students who play a concert band or orchestra instrument are encouraged to join the Band or Orchestra Enrichment Course this semester. String students will learn and perform a piece of orchestral repertoire and the wind group will work on a variety of standard concert and jazz band techniques and pieces. One rehearsal per week will be either before or after school and another rehearsal will occur during Lyceum. An informational meeting was held today but there is still time to join! All interested students should see Mrs. Kratz if they have not already done so. Parents, please email Mrs. Kratz with any questions (akratz@glendaleprep.org).

Spirit Team

Come out and help us create large banners for next Friday night’s first home football game of the year (August 18th)! We will be working together on Tuesday, August 15th right after school in Room 303 until 4:30pm creating banners to cheer on our football team. So, again, please join us on Tuesday to have fun while showing our GP spirit. Oh, and don’t forget to bring an old t-shirt so you don’t get paint on your uniform.

Great Hearts Day at Chase Field

Join us for another Great Hearts Day at Chase Field, Friday, September 1st as the Dbacks take on the Orioles! Enjoy discounted tickets, the National Anthem performed by Great Hearts choir students, and an opportunity to win game day experiences and prizes exclusive to Great Hearts families and friends. We hope to see you at the ballpark!
