A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

It was a wonderful and exciting three days. We had new student orientation on Wednesday, and the testament to our loving community is how many Juniors Seniors gave up the last day of their summer to spend time with students new to Glendale Prep. The first two days of school were full of hustle and bustle. My exhortation to my faculty was to focus on one thing- Building Trust. I believe trust is the foundation for any community; the trust we share is why GP is such a blessing. My encouragement to you as parents is to build trust as well. This is done through care, clarity, and consistency. If you ever have a question or concern, please reach out to the relevant person and share from the heart with care and clarity. My commitment to you is that we will work our best to do the same. If we can be consistent with our care and clarity, the trust between all of us only grows, even with and in the mist of conflict. Thank you for your trust, your love, and your partnership. I look forward to sharing another year with each of you.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Study Skills Workshop

Glendale Prep’s study skills workshop will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the courtyard classrooms. This workshop is highly recommended for 6th graders and new students, but all GP students are welcome to join. Students must wear their school uniform.

There will be four 45-minute sessions taught by Glendale Prep teachers:

  1. Organization and Time Management
  2. Reading and Annotating
  3. Note-Taking and Test Preparation
  4. Homework and Projects

Students should attend the workshop with one parent. The cost for each student/parent pair is $20 ($30 for multiple siblings attending with a parent). Please use THIS LINK to make this payment through the Glendale Prep payment portal.

Tutoring

Each of your students’ teachers will provide weekly tutoring sessions. The tutoring schedule is currently being compiled and will be posted in next week’s GP Blast. Meanwhile, if your child has questions about the learning or expectations for class, please encourage him/her to speak directly to their teacher either before or after class time.

Textbook Covers

As you know, the cost of school supplies can really add up! We want to take good care of the materials and supplies that are provided to us, so it is our expectation that all school-owned, hard-back textbooks will be covered either with purchased book covers or heavy paper (such as grocery-store paper bags). This expectation was announced to your students today and we will be following up on Monday in class. Please help your child cover his/her school-owned textbooks this weekend.

Dress Code Reminders

Friendly reminders about jewelry and watches: Please remember that only one metal bracelet may be worn on each wrist. Cloth, rubber and beaded bracelets are not allowed. Also, Apple watches are not to be worn; Fitbits that do not connect to any technology are fine.

Meet Our New Family Giving Officer, Mrs. Tammy Kempton!

I am so excited to introduce myself as the new Family Giving and Community Engagement Officer for Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep Academies! I have been a part of the Great Hearts community for the last 8 years in various capacities. From the moment my children started school 8 years ago, I was welcomed into the Great Hearts community with open arms. I instantly fell in love with our educational model and the care and support my children receive each day. I realized that both Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep are more than just schools and quickly became passionate about the academies. I started my time at Anthem Archway serving as a class parent and reading volunteer. After transferring to Glendale a few years later, I have had the opportunity to coach the varsity tennis team, serve lunches, and help in the office. I cherished being an active part of this campus. As a parent of two Glendale Prep students, it has emphasized how much our students and families need this education. In my new role as a Family Giving and Community Engagement Officer, I look forward to being on campus and supporting our students, families, and teachers by raising the funds that make our transformative educational model possible. I look forward to meeting you all!
