A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I am excited to be able to forward along the link from the parent event on social media. Last week, over one hundred Archway and Prep parents met to hear a presentation from Katie McPhearson about the dangers of social media and ways parents can help foster conversations with their children. It is an understatement to say that our parents found the talk very helpful and want Mrs. McPhearson to return for additional talks, possibly with students present as well.

HERE is a link to the event. I very much hope you can find time to listen.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Textbook Return – NEXT WEEK!

We will be collecting textbooks next week after each final. Please work with your child to be sure he or she has all textbooks, and they are in reasonable condition (erase any markings and tape any torn pages). Students should bring each textbook to that class’s final.

Last Day of School Scheduling Reminder

There is always much excitement and anticipation about the last day of school of school, May 26th! Please remember that students will not be in normal classes this day, and it will take longer for the front office to locate your student if he or she needs to leave early. Please schedule appointments around the last of school if possible, or plan plenty of extra time if picking up your student during the school day is unavoidable.

Finals Week

The schedule for finals week (May 22-26) is outlined below; each day is a half day. Please review this information carefully with your child(ren). Because final exams are a culmination of all that students have learned in second semester, if you have any appointments to be scheduled, please make them after early release or for another day. Finals missed due to unavoidable conflicts will be made up during the week of May 30-June 2 or receive a no credit. Contact our Dean of Academics, Amy Kratz (akratz@glendaleprep.org) if this applies to you or if you have any questions.

Monday, May 22

Review day in all classes. Early release (12:45).

Tuesday, May 23

Final exams for first and second periods. Early release (12:45).

Wednesday, May 24

Final exams for third and fourth periods. Early release (12:45).

Thursday, May 25

Final exams for fifth and sixth periods. Early release (12:45).

Friday, May 26

Awards ceremony assembly, yearbook distribution, and locker/campus cleanout. Early release (12:45).

On each testing day, the bell schedule will be as follows:

8:05-8:40      Study Hall for first exam
8:40-10:10  Exam
10:10-10:40 Break
10:40-11:10 Study Hall for second exam
11:10-12:45 Exam

Lastly, here are some tips to help your children find success and wellbeing in the next week:
1. Maintain physical health through a consistent and sufficient bedtime, a diet including lots of fruits and vegetables, and plentiful hydration.
2. Maintain mental health by finding joy in the excitement of a well-earned break on the near horizon. Fill study breaks with shared meaningful time in conversation or activities, getting a head start on summer leisure reading, or making plans to fill the summer with delight.
3. Encourage and help to provide a positive environment for studying free of distraction, including phones and other electronics.
4. Promote small intervals of daily study, rather than large, last-minute, stressful “cramming” sessions.
5. Encourage your student to attend tutoring.
6. Stick with your morning routine and be sure to get your student to school by 8:00 a.m. Being fully present in classes and on time for finals is essential.

Have Your Plans Changed?

Have your plans changed for next school year? We are over-enrolled for 2023-2024. If you plan to withdraw, please do let Mrs. Kimpel know immediately, so we can plan and she can return your textbook deposit.

Summer School 2023

Glendale Prep will be offering Summer School from June 7th through June 30th. This year, we will be offering courses in middle school Math and Latin, high school Math, and two courses designed for incoming students in Math and Study Skills. Please see THIS brochure for course offerings and other information. Space is limited. Sign up through the parent payment portal HERE and reach out to Mrs. Kratz with questions.

8th Grade Promotion

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony: It is our pleasure and honor to invite you to the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony this Wednesday, May 24th at 5:00pm in our gym. Due to limited seating, we are asking that students limit their guests to parents, siblings, and grandparents. Guests will be admitted at 4:45pm through the gym lobby doors and parents are welcome to take pictures when their student receives his/her gift from Mr. Navarrette. Please note that we will not be providing photographs of this event.

Please see the GP email that went to all 8th grade families for details and information on dress code. Note that it is the responsibility of the student and parents to ensure the dress code is followed for 8th Grade Promotion. Any student not adhering to the dress code will be denied the privilege of participating in the event.

We look forward to honoring our 8th graders!
