A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I hope you and your family have enjoyed the day off from school. We are heading into the two-week stretch. Please remind your children to finish well, but more importantly, remind them to cherish the time. I am challenging myself to not think about the many events and busyness that accompanies the end of another school year. If I focus on the “to do” list, I will miss the beauty of the very souls that are before me each day. I must be present, not merely active. This is true as a Headmaster but all the more as a parent myself.  I am sure many of you can relate and have heard older, more mature parents and grandparents say something like this, “Cherish it; before you know it, they will be out of the house.” We hear these words but rarely ever listen; at least I don’t. To listen takes time, and I can feel often that there is not enough time to stop and listen…ponder…think. However, I am beginning to learn that taking time is not always a waste; taking time does not mean one is indecisive. Taking time is very much necessary to gather perspective and almost always leads me to be grateful for others.

I came across this stanza in a poem that I thought was good for me to consider as we close out another school year with these young hearts and minds.

Time is endless but goes too fast.
You long for the future, then yearn for the past.

May we be present these final two weeks we will share together!

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Sixth Grade Field Trip- SAVE THE DATE

We are working diligently to plan a small and very local field trip for 6th grade on Wednesday, May 17th. More details will be forthcoming in an email to 6th grade families. Thank you for your patience

Have Your Plans Changed?

We are over-enrolled for the 23-24 school year. If you plan to withdraw, please do let Mrs. Kimpel know immediately, so she can return your textbook deposit.

Summer School 2023

We are pleased to announce that Glendale Prep will be offering Summer School from June 7th through June 30th. This year, we will be offering courses in middle school Math and Latin, high school Math, and two courses designed for incoming students in Math and Study Skills. Please see THIS brochure for course offerings and other information. Space is limited. Sign up through the parent payment portal HERE and reach out to Mrs. Kratz with questions.

8th Grade Promotion

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony: It is our pleasure and honor to invite you to the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony on Wednesday, May 24th at 5:00pm in our gym. Due to limited seating, we are asking that students limit their guests to parents, siblings, and grandparents. Guests will be admitted at 4:45pm through the gym lobby doors and parents are welcome to take pictures when their student receives his/her gift from Mr. Navarrette. Please note that we will not be providing photographs of this event.

Please see the GP email that went to all 8th grade families for details and information on dress code. Note that it is the responsibility of the student and parents to ensure the dress code is followed for 8th Grade Promotion. Any student not adhering to the dress code will be denied the privilege of participating in the event.

We look forward to honoring our 8th graders!

Senior Thesis

Senior Thesis and Defense Panels are an integral part of the high school experience at Glendale Prep. Students have worked for almost a year on their Senior Thesis. All panels will consist of two main parts: 1) The Thesis Presentation- a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2) The Thesis Panel Discussion- a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis. Parents are invited to attend. Thesis panels will be at 3:30 (1:20 on Wednesdays) in the GP Library or at 3:45 (1:35 Wednesdays) in room 408. All panels last 60 minutes.

The following students will have their panels next week:
