A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I wanted to remind you of an upcoming event about social media. I asked you to mark your calendars for May 8th from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We are co-hosting this free workshop with Archway Glendale. Nationally renowned social media expert, Katie McPhearson, will be our guest speaker and will share about the dangers of social media along with ways parents can help navigate conversations with their children regarding social media. Please sign up HERE. I very much hope you can attend.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Summer School 2023

We are pleased to announce that Glendale Prep will be offering Summer School from June 7th through June 30th. This year, we will be offering courses in middle school Math and Latin, high school Math, and two courses designed for incoming students in Math and Study Skills. Please see THIS brochure for course offerings and other information. Sign up through the parent payment portal, coming soon.

Spring Concert

Remember that the Prep School Winter Concerts are NEXT WEEK on the evening of Wednesday, May 3rd at Haven Church in Glendale (5902 W Cactus Rd, Glendale, AZ 85304). All grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 students in Music class are required to perform that evening, and will be joined by all of our extracurricular choirs (Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Bella Voce, Men’s Choir, and Middle School Choir) and by Jazz Band and Orchestra. If your students are participating in the concert, they will receive detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert, but we also encourage all students and families to come to hear these fine performers share their musical gifts with you.

There are two separate concerts on May 3rd. The Middle School (recorders, choir, bands) concert begins at 5:30 pm and the High School (choirs, band, and orchestra) concert begins at 7:00 pm. Students must provide their own transportation the evening of the concert. The various students must arrive at the church by the following times, to sign in and have their concert dress approved. Failure to report at or before the correct time will result in a deduction of grade:

4:30 PM         All Middle School performers
6:00 PM         High School Concert Choir, Bella Voce, and Men’s Choir performers
6:30 PM         High School MUS 9 and MUS 10 students

Rehearsal for the concert will take place during the school day on Tuesday, May 2nd. Students will be transported to and from Glendale Prep by bus for the rehearsal at Haven Church when they are needed there for rehearsal.

NOTE: Students in the extracurricular choirs may be given specific dress instructions that differ from the following guidelines.

Concert attire for MIDDLE-school boys is Black and White, as follows:

-White long-sleeved collared dress shirt and black dress slacks
-Long black necktie (bowties are not allowed)
-Black belt, black socks, and dress shoes (sneakers are not dress shoes)
No denim, external pockets, patterned tops, or any other deviation from the concert attire allowed.

Concert attire for MIDDLE-school girls is Black and White, as follows:

-A white blouse with solid black dress slacks or black skirt. If a girl would like to wear a black dress, she must cover the top of the dress with a white blouse or white cardigan so that the look is consistent with the uniform of a white blouse with black skirt/pants. Sleeves for blouses or dresses must be cap-sleeve or longer, and skirts or dresses must not be shorter than the knee.
-Black dress shoes (Open-toed dress shoes are permitted, but flip-flops, sneakers, or boots are not allowed.) Heels of any kind must be very low.
-Solid black tights beneath skirts are permitted. Leggings or yoga pants are not a substitute for dress slacks.
-Nail polish and make-up must follow dress code guidelines.
No denim, external pockets on pants, patterned tops, or any other deviation from the concert attire code allowed.

Concert attire for HIGH-school students:

Concert attire for high school is ALL BLACK for both boys and girls, as follows:

BOYS will wear black long-sleeved collared dress shirts with black slacks, black belt, black dress shoes, and no tie. Sneakers are not dress shoes.

GIRLS will wear a black dress, or a black blouse with black skirt or black dress slacks, and black dress shoes (open-toed dress shoes are permitted, but flip-flops, sneakers, or boots will not be allowed). Heels of any kind must be very low.

Ladies’ concert clothing and make-up must follow the dress code in the family handbook. Skirts and dresses must reach to the middle of the knee or lower.
