A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Parents, One area of focus we will have next year is on kindness. To that end, I want to share aspects of our community that are coming up more and more. It is the notion of not coming forward with necessary information when it comes to how students treat one another, sharing information but seeking to limit the school’s response out of fear of retaliation, or using the “report a concern” via the webpage without sharing specifics, so that we cannot do much about the situation. When I share that we are a community, it is important for you to know that you will never be a bother in sharing about any concern or situation that involves student kindness. While a quality education is good, the student experience when it comes to feeling safe, known, and loved is more important that any academic concept or skill in some discipline. It is also important for we as parents to realize that we must come in at times, as adults, to help our children solve the problem. A school can only do so much; a community should be able to work through any and all situations to guide our children towards virtue through ownership, repentance, forgiveness, and restoration. Please come to us when there is a concern; do not let things fester. Please know that sharing information but then asking us to not do anything or limit our response can make it difficult to work through the necessary steps for student growth. I understand the anxiety we have as parents, but I do not want to miss a learning opportunity or have a situation where a student is enduring meanness when adults can come in and help. Community Investment Mr. Collum’s seventh grade Studio Art class is supported through your contribution to Community Investment. The Classical Liberal Arts education offered at Glendale Prep makes us one of the most sought-after schools in Arizona, and Community Investment is the most important way your family can support this great work! Your family’s yearly commitment to Community Investment significantly impacts students and helps bridge the gap between what is received from public funding versus the actual cost of a Glendale Prep education. We begin each school year with a $1,500 per student deficit from what public schools receive in funding. With the help of all families, we can bridge this gap. Every dollar makes a difference! Thank you to all our families who have already given to this year’s 2022-23 Community Investment campaign, we are truly grateful for your care and support! If you have yet to make your gift to Community Investment, please click here to make a one-time gift, or click here to split your gift and make one gift in April and one gift in May. Thank you for supporting the Arts! Standardized Testing Standardized testing runs through Friday, April 28th. While we understand there are illness and appointments that arise, we appreciate your help in making sure your student is present during testing times as much as possible. We will have an adjusted schedule for the entire month of April due to standardized testing; the class schedule is included in the chart below. We are trying to schedule all of the testing in the morning, so our hope is that if you have to schedule your student for an appointment, you will schedule it around the tests. If a student leaves campus during a test, they will have to submit the unfinished test and will not be able to complete the test.Testing will be administered by grade level. Most make up testing will be conducted on Wednesdays, but we may have students make up tests during other days as there is limited space in the makeup testing room. Testing will be administered by grade level; make up testing will be conducted on Wednesdays. All testing will be during the first two periods of each day.
