A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I wanted to share with you a final tax credit contest. If Glendale Prep families and friends can bring in 80 new tax credits before April 15th, we will name an additional R&R weekend in the month of May. We have made announcements to students, so you can anticipate your child coming and asking you about this. Tax credits are a revenue stream for our school to make up the gap between what it costs for a classical liberal arts education and the funding received from the state. We do need your help, along with Community Investment. Thank you to all of you who have been so generous with your time and money.

Here are some helpful ideas regarding meeting our tax credit goal-

  • When posting pictures of your kids on social media at GP sporting events, in their uniform, or at a drama or music performance, please share this link Donate to Glendale Preparatory Tax Credit Drive and ask them to support our school. Anyone who pays taxes in Arizona can give their tax credit to a public school of their choice; they do not have to have a student enrolled at that school to donate.
  • Ask grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and co-workers to support GP! Even if they anticipate a refund from the state of Arizona, they will get every dollar back!
  • Do you have an older child that has a job and pays taxes in Arizona? They, too, can give to our school! Single filers can give up to $200 a year, and those married filing jointly can give up to $400.
  • Are you a GP coach or have a student athlete? Please share with your fellow families and friends the importance of Tax Credits! They help keep our sports fees lower, so we do not have to pass the expense on to our families.

Thank you for your partnership,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Tax Credit Contest

The grade level Tax Credit contest is getting close! Thank you to everyone who has already given and/or spread the word to family and friends! The grade that gets the most Tax Credits will additionally get a Spirit Wear Day and ice cream at lunch. Here is an updated total:

  • 8th, 11th, and 12th grades are tied for the lead with 42%
  • 6th has 41%
  • 7th has 39%
  • 10th has 34%
  • 9th has 27%

Each student who refers a Tax Credit gift will continue to receive a free snack at lunch from the Snack Shack! There is still time to shift your tax dollars to Glendale Prep. Remember, you receive every dollar back, so giving your tax credit is no cost to you! The deadline is April 15th. Please reach out to Tammy Kempton with any questions at tkempton@glendaleprep.org.

2024 High School Retreat- DATES/ VOLUNTEERS

We are excited to announce our annual 2024-2025 High School Retreat to Lost Canyon for rising 9th – 12th graders! Seniors will depart from Glendale Prep to Lost Canyon on Tuesday, August 27th for a 1 day/1 night senior retreat to then welcome 9th-11th grade students on August 28th. All high school students will return to Glendale Prep on Friday, August 30th. Please look for a detailed email, including a link to the payment portal, on Monday, April 8th.

We will need several volunteers for the parent work crew to support this event. Parents do not pay to serve on the parent work crew and additionally will receive 25% off the cost of their child(ren)’s fee for the retreat. Volunteer information and a sign-up link will be sent Tuesday, April 9th at 8:00AM. We are limiting volunteers to one per family during the first round of sign-ups. Volunteer spots have traditionally filled quickly; if you are interested, please make special note of this date and time, so you can watch for the email.

Anton Uniforms- Spring Sale

Anton Uniforms will have a sale on all purchases made between April 15th and May 12th, 2024. This is done in two phases this year:

  1. 15% off ANY purchase ordered between April 15th-29th (for Glendale Prep families ONLY) using code GLEN15
  2. 15% off on purchases of $200+ orders between April 30th- May 12th using code SAVEBIG and 10% off all other orders using code SAVE10

You can receive these discounts by shopping either online or by mentioning the code to the associates in-store. This is a great opportunity to stock up on school uniforms at current lower prices before they’re adjusted to reflect recent supplier price increases which begin on June 1st, 2024.

Anton understands that buying uniforms in advance can be a challenge, especially since children grow at different rates. The goal is to always provide a comfortable and well-fitting uniform, so they happily offer exchanges for up to two weeks after the start of the 2024-2025 school year (see flyer for important details). Any orders placed outside of the sale dates fall under their typical 60 Day return/exchange policy.

Solar Eclipse Monday

Please partner with us about the solar eclipse on Monday by encouraging your children not to look directly at the sun. Students are regularly outside during passing periods and we want to ensure they understand how to keep themselves safe and prevent damage to their eyes.

*UPDATED* State Mandated Standardized Testing

Standardized testing has begun and will run through Friday, April 19th. While we understand there are illness and appointments that arise, we appreciate your help in making sure your student is present during testing times as much as possible. We will have an adjusted schedule for the week of April 8th – April 12th. The testing/class schedule is included in the chart below. If a student leaves campus during a test, he or she will have to submit the unfinished test and will not be able to complete it. Testing will be administered by grade level and make up testing will be completed at the earliest time available upon a students’ return to school.

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) arrives to school on time, and (4) has no appointments scheduled during his or her testing time slot.

Language Testing

Students will be taking part in the National Foreign Language Exams in the upcoming weeks during their regularly scheduled foreign language class. This is a very exciting opportunity for Glendale Prep students, as they have the chance to compete against other students across the country and overseas. Due to the standardized nature of the test, it will not be possible to reschedule the test if your student is absent, so it is important that your student is present on the day of their scheduled foreign language class. Please refer to the chart below for the dates of the various tests.

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) arrives to school on time, and (4) has no appointments scheduled during their testing time slot.

Senior Thesis and Defense

Senior Thesis and Defense Panels are an integral part of the high school experience at Glendale Prep. Students have worked for almost a year on their Senior Thesis. All panels will consist of two main parts: 1) The Thesis Presentation- a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2) The Thesis Panel Discussion- a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis (of about 45 minutes). Parents are invited to attend. Thesis panels will be at 3:30 (12:45 on Wednesdays) in the GP Library or at 3:45 in room 408.
