A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I wanted to provide you with an update on the parent survey that was sent to all families a few weeks ago. To begin, I am so thankful for those of you who took the time to complete the survey. We had over 200 parents complete the survey! Your feedback is helpful for me to reflect upon areas of strength, as well as areas of needed improvement or potential change. I know that data can be boring or dense to read, but I did want to share the results with you. The two questions that will be of focus next year include student kindness and parent access to student progress. I will update you in the summer regarding my thoughts and changes for 2023-2024 school year connected to these two areas.

As a community, it is important for you to see how other parents answered the specific questions on the survey. There was not a way to pull the data in an “easy to read” format, so I typed out the results on a document for easy viewing. You can reach out to me with any questions you have. Please click HERE to see the results from the Spring 2023 Parent Survey.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Yearbook: Deadline for Orders

The final deadline for personalized yearbook orders is fast approaching! Ensure that your child will receive one of these coveted books with his or her name embossed in gold foil by April 15th. Yearbooks are $46 and $52 with the gold foil personalization HERE.

The Portal will close at 11:59pm on April 10th. No further purchases can be made through the Portal after this date.

ACT- Tuesday, April 4th

As part of the Arizona Department of Education state mandated testing for high school students, we will administer an in-school ACT for all 11th grade students. This is something our 11th graders take each Spring and may potentially use for college applications. The test will be administered from 8:05 AM – 2:00 PM with a lunch break. Please remind your student to get a good night’s rest and be on time to school that day or they will not be allowed entry into the test. Students should bring: #2 pencils (mechanical pencils are not allowed), ACT approved calculator, water, healthy snacks for breaks.

Standardized Testing

Standardized testing runs through Friday, April 28th. While we understand there are illness and appointments that arise, we appreciate your help in making sure your student is present during testing times as much as possible. We will have an adjusted schedule for the entire month of April due to standardized testing; the class schedule is included in the chart below. We are trying to schedule all of the testing in the morning, so our hope is that if you have to schedule your student for an appointment, you will schedule it around the tests. If a student leaves campus during a test, they will have to submit the unfinished test and will not be able to complete the test. Testing will be administered by grade level; make up testing will be conducted on Wednesdays. All testing will be during the first two periods of each day. Please see the chart below for details:

Griffin Players Presents Harvey

Join the Griffin Players TONIGHT for their spring production, Harvey. In this Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, Elwood insists on including his friend Harvey in all his sister’s social gatherings. The only trouble is, Harvey is an imaginary six-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit. And when his sister tries to do something about it, hilarity ensues.

Everyone is invited to attend a stand-alone performance of this show on Friday, March 31st at 7:30 pm, and adults can enjoy the performance as part of the Dinner and the Arts event (see below). Tickets for the stand-alone performance on Friday, March 31st are $10 for students and $15 for all others and can be purchased HERE or at the door.

Dinner and the Arts

We are honored and excited to host Glendale Prep’s second annual Dinner and the Arts event TOMORROW, Saturday, April 1st. We will showcase the many artistic and musical talents of GP students. Please come in semi-professional attire and enjoy mingling with other parents and teachers, a catered meal, and a special performance of Harvey put on by our own Griffin Players. We are eager for you to see these wonderful scholars present and perform. We look forward to spending time with you!

Tickets are now $100 on the payment portal. Tickets will be sold at the door for $125 CASH ONLY. All tickets are sold based on availability. Please purchase tickets HERE.

Attending Dinner and the Arts last year was an inspiring experience. The breadth of talented students at Glendale Prep is amazing in areas we do not often readily see on display; they truly embody the cultivation of truth, beauty, and goodness, and the fruit of a humanities based education. I cannot wait to attend this year’s Dinner and the Arts and strongly encourage other parents to come and enjoy a fun night. (Testimonial from a GP parent who attended last year.)

Dinner and the Arts Event Schedule:

5:30-6:00 Appetizers, music, art show, mingling
6:05- 6:50 Catered Italian buffet dinner
7:00-9:00 Harvey put on by The Griffin Players; casted by GP students
Dessert provided at intermission

*Please note that Harvey will is also offered as a stand-alone performance TONIGHT without the Dinner and the Arts event on Friday, March 31st. Please see above for information on this event including a link to purchase tickets.

Do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Mure with questions.

H2O Festival- Thank You!

The H2O festival took place last Saturday on our campus. It was a great success with more than 80 visitors! Thank you all for coming in numbers and with great questions! And thank you to our Forces of Nature students and special guests (Mr. Melendez from CAP, Dr. Bernat from AZ Water Banking Authority, and Peoria Water Department representatives ) whose energy, enthusiasm and knowledge were remarkable and appreciated by everyone.

For our students, here are the results of the best attendance contests:

  • The best attendance per House is for FALCONIS who earns 25 points.
  • The best attendance per grade is for the 7th graders who earn a privilege day. On Thursday April 6th, only they can wear GP spirit or GP athletic shirts (keeping uniform pants, shorts, skirts and shoes).

Congratulations and thank you for your support and great spirit!

Senior Thesis

Senior Thesis and Defense Panels are an integral part of the high school experience at Glendale Prep. Students have worked for almost a year on their Senior Thesis. All panels will consist of two main parts: 1) The Thesis Presentation- a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2) The Thesis Panel Discussion- a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis. Parents are invited to attend. Thesis panels will be at 3:30 (1:20 on Wednesdays) in the GP Library or at 3:45 in room 408. All panels last 60 minutes.
