A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you and the family enjoyed your break together. I met this week with teachers to review the parent survey results. We are in the process of meeting as a leadership team to discuss potential focus items for the 2024-2025 school year. I would love your insights and perspective in light of the data. HERE is a link to the survey results. I think it is so wonderful to see where we are strong and thriving, not merely at Glendale Prep but also at Archway Glendale!

I am blessed to be part of this community, and I hope that feeling is true for you, as well.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Updates to Finals Week and Finals Make-Up

Semester finals are like finishing the final leg of a great race. Finals help teachers gauge student learning and acquisition of skills throughout the quarter and semester. This is why semester finals constitute ten percent of the semester grade.

On very rare occasions, we have been very accommodating when parents ask a child to take finals early or make up finals. Below are details regarding final exams.

Students will have one final on Thursday, May 23rd and one final on Friday, May 24th. This change is a result of seeing the need to pass out yearbooks earlier than normal and provide students more time to have teachers and peers sign. We must also ensure a quiet testing environment for the final two tests and carry out our various cleaning, textbook collecting, and enjoying Glendale Prep Traditions.

Here is the schedule for the entire week, May 20th-24th:

Monday- No school; students study at home
Tuesday- Finals for periods 1 and 2 (half day)
Wednesday- Finals for periods 3 and 4 (half day)
Thursday- Final for period 5 (half day)
Friday- Final for period 6 (half day)

We do want to be accommodating knowing that we are making this change and only communicating now. If it looks as if your student will need to take finals early, these are the only available dates:

Thursday, May 16th (up to three finals)
Friday, May 17th (up to three finals)

If a student is sick, here are the two make up days to make up final exams:

Tuesday, May 28th (up to three finals)
Wednesday, May 29th (up to three finals)

If a student does not complete a final, he or she will be issued a zero. These are the only two make-up dates.

All communication about make-up finals should be directed to Mrs. Janssen, rjanssen@glendaleprep.org.

Become a Host for a French Student

Becoming a host family is easy, simple, and rewarding for those who are open to the world and curious about other cultures and languages. The Alliance Française of Greater Phoenix has partnered with La Route des Langues, who has 25+ years of experience in exclusive international language programs and has sent more than 1,500 students worldwide every year, to bring this program to Phoenix.

Hosting a French student is an amazing opportunity to learn, share, and give your family a global perspective:

  • It is for students aged 12-18.
  • Students stay 2-4 weeks during the summer.
  • The program is flexible- you decide who and when you’re hosting.

*UPDATED* State Mandated Standardized Testing

Standardized testing begins on Monday, April 1st and will run through Friday, April 19th. While we understand there are illness and appointments that arise, we appreciate your help in making sure your student is present during testing times as much as possible. We will have an adjusted schedule for the week of April 8th – April 12th. The testing/class schedule is included in the chart below. If a student leaves campus during a test, he or she will have to submit the unfinished test and will not be able to complete it. Testing will be administered by grade level and make up testing will be completed at the earliest time available upon a students’ return to school.

*Please note changes to 8th grade AzSCI testing, and 11th grade AzSCI testing dates and times.*

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) arrives to school on time, and (4) has no appointments scheduled during his or her testing time slot.

Please see the charts below for details:

Language Testing

Students will be taking part in the National Foreign Language Exams in the upcoming weeks during their regularly scheduled foreign language class. This is a very exciting opportunity for Glendale Prep students, as they have the chance to compete against other students across the country and overseas. Due to the standardized nature of the test, it will not be possible to reschedule the test if your student is absent, so it is important that your student is present on the day of their scheduled foreign language class. Please refer to the chart below for the dates of the various tests.

Please ensure your student: (1) gets a good night’s sleep, (2) eats a nourishing breakfast, (3) arrives to school on time, and (4) has no appointments scheduled during their testing time slot.

Parents are invited to attend. Thesis panels will be at 3:30 (12:45 on Wednesdays) in the GP Library or at 3:45 in room 408.
