A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Parents, I had a meeting with all headmasters of Prep schools across our network this past week. We are reading through a book by Stephen R. Covey titled, Trust and Inspire. The premise of the book juxtaposes two types of leadership styles: Command and Control vs. Trust and Inspire. The book is written for leaders, but I wonder if the principles could be helpful for us as parents. Here is a table that I found insightful with qualities or effects of each system of leadership-
I know it is difficult for you to make application and assessment of this with such a short summary, but I do find myself defaulting to the “command and control” paradigm both as a school leader and parent, but I very much know my heart is to be one who leads by building trust and inspiring others to seek self-accountability through mutual commitment. This book has certainly made me reflect and consider how I can grow and improve. Thank you for letting me share. Enjoy the extended weekend, Current 6th-11th Grade Re-Enrollment: COMING SOON Secure your student’s spot for the 2024-2025 school year beginning March 4th by completing the re-enrollment packet on the Enrollment Portal (you will receive an email when re-enrollment is live) and bringing in all the required items during one of our available slots HERE. Slots are broken down for families with just Archway students, just Prep students, and for families with both Archway and Prep students. Please sign up for only ONE time slot PER FAMILY! THIS PROCESS IS QUICK AND EASY! Simply print out the re-enrollment packet one-sided, and bring it to the GP gym lobby during your scheduled time slot. You will also need to bring in one Arizona Residency Document (we prefer a driver’s license or utility bill with your current address). The document you provide must list the physical address where the student resides and should match the address in the re-enrollment packet. NEW THIS YEAR: The document MUST also list the name of the person who signed the AZ Residency Form in the re-enrollment packet. Re-enrollment materials will not be accepted or marked complete if any of the required materials are missing. We look forward to seeing you at re-enrollment! Current 8th Grade: Rising 9th Grade Language Survey At 9:00AM on Tuesday, February 20th, you will receive an email regarding your rising 9th grader’s language choice for the 2024-2025 school year. It is important ALL current 8th grade families read this email and fill out the Rising 9th Grade Language Survey, regardless of their student’s intent to return to Glendale Prep next year. Please be aware that our language classes each have a limited number of seats, and all responses are time stamped. Your prompt reply will increase the chance that your child will receive his or her first choice of language, and will also help us in class planning for next year. Students who do not have a language selected by March 18th will be assigned to a 9th grade language class for 2024-2025 based on availability and will not be changed.
