A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

One tradition at Glendale Prep is to have a senior mini retreat every quarter. This usually involves food, fellowship, seminar, and some fun activity.

We decided to have a mini retreat this past Wednesday in the spirit of service. Our seniors served in variety of capacities including the following: building new set panels for drama, organizing the science equipment storage room, organizing the athletic sheds, transporting gravel from Archway while also clearing out the little pebbles in the artificial grass, updating software on student devices that will be used here in the next month or so, and finally, painting a classic seascape by van Gogh on the wall of a newly constructed classrooms.

Not only was the work done well, but everyone shared with me how wonderful for seniors were, particularly their attitude and joy. I shared with seniors after their breakfast that sometimes in life when it feels overwhelming or we want to tend to focus on ourselves, having a heart to serve can bring more fulfillment and joy than we expect.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Field Day- Wednesday

As a reminder, Field Day is next week on Wednesday, February 15th. We’ve combined the best of both athletic and academic games to yield a day of fun, House spirit, and teamwork! Field Day attendance is required, just as it would be on any regular early release day.

Field Day Scheduling

We are excited that Field Day is next week on Wednesday, February 15th! Please remember that students will not be in normal classes this day and it will take longer for the front office to locate your student if he or she needs to leave early. Please schedule appointments around Field Day if possible, or plan plenty of extra time if picking up your student during the school day is unavoidable.

Cell Phone Policy

Parents, the cell phone policy regarding students after school is as follows:

Students are not to be on their phones while walking through a crosswalk or waiting for the light to change.

Students waiting on the curb for pick up can only use their phones to call or text for a ride or to call or text their parents.

Cell phones should not be used in any other way. Teachers have been instructed to take a cell phone for misuse and place it in the front office for parents to receive directly. Students will also receive a detention.

2023-2024 High School Retreat- Parent Work Crew

We are excited about our 2023-2024 High School Retreat at Lost Canyon for rising 9th- 12th graders. To support this event, we are looking for a number of parents to volunteer as parent work crew. It may seem early, but plans are already well under way. We will need two groups of volunteers:

  • One group who can go up with the Seniors on Tuesday, August 29th, and stay through the retreat, returning Friday, September 1st.
  • Another group who will go up to Lost Canyon with the 9th-11th graders on Wednesday, August 30th, returning Friday, September 1st.

Parents do not pay to serve on the parent work crew and additionally will receive 50% off the cost of their child(ren)’s fee for the retreat (coming soon on the parent payment portal). Early commitment to serve ensures an extra early discount for this event! Please sign up HERE to volunteer.

If you have questions about serving on the parent work crew, reach out to Mrs. Sarbacker at KSarbacker@glendaleprep.org.

Tax Credit

Did you know Glendale Prep can use your Arizona Public School Tax Credit to support character building activities outside of the classroom?  This week, our Seniors participated in Community Service projects including shoveling rocks, updating and debugging laptops, painting murals, building drama sets, as well as cleaning and organizing science closets and athletic sheds.  You can support this great work by giving your Tax Credit to Glendale Prep!  In return, you will receive up to $400 off your Arizona tax bill with no money out of pocket!  Take advantage of the 2022 Arizona Public School Tax Credit before filing your tax return, and before April 15, 2023 by clicking here. Thank you for supporting our Great Hearted students!

Re-Enrollment for Current 6th-11th Graders

Secure your student’s spot for the 23/24 school year beginning March 1st, by completing the re-enrollment packet on the parent portal (you will receive an email when re-enrollment is live) and bringing in all the required items during one of our available slots HERE. Slots are broken down for families with just Archway students, just Prep students, and for families with both Archway and Prep students.  Please sign up for only ONE time slot per family!

When available, please print out the re-enrollment packet, one-sided, and bring it to the GP gym lobby during your scheduled slot. You will also need to bring in one Arizona Residency Document (we prefer a driver’s license or utility bill with your current address). The document you provide must list the physical address where the student resides and should match the address in the re-enrollment packet.
