A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Parents,
As I am coaching and finishing up this winter season of basketball, I thought I would highlight Athletics and our other extracurricular offerings to students. This winter season has carried great participation in terms of numbers as well as success. We have 175 students playing a middle school or high school sport. Our four varsity teams will likely make playoffs (hoping my boys can earn a few more wins this week). Our robotics team recently won first and second place in a competition, students in Griffin Players will finish their performances this week of Trojan Women, and our extracurricular choirs are up and running, preparing for a competition in Flagstaff. I should also mention that we have student-athletes in other sports working on skills, strength, and conditioning. Well over half of our student body is currently participating in some extracurricular activity.
In speaking to a number of potential families on tours lately, I often share how there are specific virtues that are difficult to learn and develop in the classroom setting but certainly come out in athletics or extracurriculars. And if they are similar to what might take place in an academic setting, the kind and degree of virtues vary. Virtues such as leadership, sacrifice, determination, teamwork, confidence, willpower, competing to win, and overcoming mental/physical/situational challenges come out in these various activities. I often thank you for your partnership when it comes to joining us to uphold our standards of character and academics; thank you for the time, money, love, support, and commitment you make each day, so your son or daughter can benefit from the rich and full experience of GP. It will certainly shape them for the life for years to come.
Enjoy the weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster
Action Needed: House Shirts
We are excited about our House t-shirts and cannot wait to distribute them to students, but we need your assistance. Please take a moment to complete this quick survey BY TOMORROW, FEBRUARY 4th at midnight at so we ensure your students gets the appropriate size. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sarbacker at ksarbacker@glendaleprep.org.
ASSEMBLY MONDAY: Spirit Shirts and Tennis Shoes
Monday, February 6th, we will have a unique schedule followed by an end of day assembly in the gym. All Glendale Prep students will enjoy the privilege of wearing one of the following shirts to go with their uniform pants or skirt:
- student’s own team GP athletic jersey
- any GP spirit shirt
- current house shirt
- a solid colored shirt that represents the student’s house (red, orange, green or purple only)
**No altered or homemade shirts allowed.
Because we will have an assembly in the gym with students possibly doing something active on the gym floor, students may wear their tennis shoes on Monday.
Middle School Epic Cycle
Join us Friday, February 24th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, for a night of games, music, and epic storytelling! All middle school students are invited to attend. Snacks will be provided, and students are encouraged to bring their favorite board games to enjoy with friends and teachers. The highlight of our evening will be a theatrical retelling of The Lay of Thrym, a beloved Norse myth.
Dress Code: This is not a uniformed event. Coverage should be the same as the standard middle school uniform. No large distracting logos. Students are encouraged to dress warmly, and to wear gym-appropriate athletic shoes. House shirts are also recommended!
Tickets are available HERE on the parent portal for $15 through February 12th and $20 thereafter through 5:00 pm the day of the event. Tickets are $25 CASH ONLY at the door and parents will need to sign a paper permission form in person before student entry to the epic cycle for those who did not pay on the portal.
Cell phones must be brought in a zip-top baggy clearly labeled with the student’s name.
Please email Mr. Kilcup at mkilcup@glendaleprep.org with questions.
Griffin Players Winter Play
Join the Griffin Players for Euripides’ Trojan Women, one of the greatest war plays of all time. Troy has fallen and the Queen Hecuba and a group of noble women await their fate. With a cast of characters familiar from Greek mythology and epics, including Poseidon and Athena, Helen and Menelaus, this play zooms in on another side of the story. Over the course of this harrowing play, we find that dignity is possible in defeat and that victory may come at as high a cost as defeat.
Remaining performances are Friday 2/3 at 7:30pm, and Saturday 2/4 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for everyone else and are available HERE on the payment portal. Please remember that seating for each performance is extremely limited!

Re-Enrollment for Current 6th-11th Graders
Secure your student’s spot for the 23/24 school year beginning March 1st, by completing the re-enrollment packet on the parent portal (you will receive an email when re-enrollment is live) and bringing in all the required items during one of our available slots HERE. Slots are broken down for families with just Archway students, just Prep students, and for families with both Archway and Prep students. Please sign up for only ONE time slot per family!
When available, please print out the re-enrollment packet, one-sided, and bring it to the GP gym lobby during your scheduled slot. You will also need to bring in one Arizona Residency Document (we prefer a driver’s license or utility bill with your current address). The document you provide must list the physical address where the student resides and should match the address in the re-enrollment packet.
Re-enrollment materials will not be accepted or marked complete if any of the required materials are missing.
Photography Enrichment Course
In the Photography Enrichment, students will learn basic camera skills, elements of art and principles of design to create photographic artwork. At each meeting, students will learn a new camera skill and artistic technique. For the next meeting, students will create photographic artwork to be presented and critiqued using the learned skill and technique. Digital SLR cameras are recommended or camera app with manual settings in handheld devices. This enrichment is open to high school students (grades 9th-12th) and will meet weekly on Thursdays after school 3:15-4:15 PM starting February 2nd. Sign up on the payment portal HERE.

Athletic Eligibility
GP Athletics is continuously striving for excellence in all we do. It is important that student-athletes feel both supported and encouraged as a student first. Success in the classroom is not easily achieved: it requires effort and discipline on all levels. This year, GP Athletics will continue our grade and eligibility process. Please click HERE and save a copy to easily access this information for the remainder of the season. Mr. Kontak and the coaching staff will inform families of all eligibility decisions and disciplines.
Athletics
Spring sports: Our spring meet the coach night was a huge success! I am proud to say that we will have nine different programs this spring. Also, I would like to echo what Mr. Navarrette expressed in his portion. Specifically, his message of thanks to all parents of our student athletes. I am appreciative of the time, money, love, support, and commitment that is poured into our students to create a special athletic experience. As we come closer to the end of winter seasons and the start of spring seasons, I will continue to focus on our mission of service.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us athletics@glendaleprep.org.
