A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

We will have our Winter Sports Assembly next Friday, January 26th, towards the end of the school day. The students will have an abbreviated schedule with shortened classes, show their school spirit by wearing House shirts, GP jerseys, or GP spirit shirts, while also wearing their favorite kicks for the day. The Assembly will showcase our winter athletes, have some friendly competition between students and teachers, and certainly be loud. We have a number of athletic events on campus over the next number of weeks. Student-Athlete participation is high; nearly half of our student body is in a winter sport, and all of our high school teams will likely make the playoffs as well! It is an exciting time of year, and we hope to see you come out to cheer on our Griffins! WE ARE GP!

Have a nice weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Q2/ S1 Evaluations: Parent Portal to Close

Remember that the PowerSchool parent portal will be open to view grades only through tonight, Friday, January 19th. Refer to the January 5th letter for a link and login instructions. Please print or download and save a copy of your child’s report card before this time.

Sprit Day: January 26th

Spirit Day is Friday, January 26th, and we want students to wear their favorite house shirt, GP jersey, or GP spirit shirt with kicks of their choice. Kicks do not include sandals, slides, slippers, or crocs. Jerseys that do not cover what the uniform normally covers would require an undershirt, and hoodies are not allowed. Standard uniform bottoms, belts, and socks should also be worn as normal.

Hope Drive for Phoenix Rescue Mission

Griffin Robotics is hosting a food drive! All donations will go to the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Please bring non-perishable food and hygiene/household items to the donation boxes located in the front office and in the gym lobby by Friday, January 26th. If you’d like to bring specific items for a Hope Totes packing event, please use the link/QR code below to sign up. We will be packing Hope Totes Wednesday the 31st from 12:30-1:30.

Time with the Headmaster

Robotics Teams Hold State Record

In pink: Metal Masters. In blue: Unscheduled Disassembly

This past weekend the two Glendale Prep Robotics Teams, Unscheduled Disassembly and Metal Masters, competed in their second qualifying tournament at Trivium Preparatory Academy. They took 1st and 3rd places after their five ranking matches and teamed up together for the final elimination matches that determine the winning teams for the tournament. Their alliance took 1st place, going undefeated in the semifinals and finals matches and both teams now hold the state record for the most points scored in a round! Metal Masters also took 1st place for the Inspire Award, the highest award at a competition and an award no Glendale Prep Robotics Team has ever won in our eight year history. A video of their record holding match can be found here and an explanation for this year’s game can be found here.

College Counseling

FAFSA Workshop for Senior Parents & Students: Glendale Prep will be hosting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Workshop on Thursday, February 1st at 6:30pm in the Archway Multipurpose Room. Our ASU Admissions Representative, Natalie Arreola, will walk parents and students through the application process. Prior to attending the workshop, please use this link to create two accounts: one for the student and one for a parent. Creating these accounts will provide both parents and students with an FSA ID, which is required to complete a FAFSA application.

Completing a FAFSA determines student eligibility for need-based financial aid. Please note, some colleges and universities require a FAFSA to be filed before awarding merit scholarship monies. If you would like to attend this workshop, please RSVP here.

10th and 11th Graders: GREAT HEARTS COLLEGE SYMPOSIUM: This annual event takes place on Saturday, February 3, 2024 and is for all juniors and sophomores and their parents. An optional Essay Writing workshop providing information from a college admissions representative will begin at 3:15 pm while the actual event will begin at 4:00 pm with a presentation from ASU and UA representatives on Admissions and Financial Aid. For a detailed breakdown of the agenda and a registration link, please see the attached flyer.

ACT Save the Date: Tests will take place at Glendale Prep in the morning. Please ensure your student arrives by 8:05am and if possible, avoid scheduling appointments, as this is a state mandated test.

  • Freshman Aspire ACT – Monday, April 15
  • Sophomores PREACT – Tuesday, April 16
  • Juniors ACT – Thursday, April 18

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will take place at Scottsdale Prep in the spring and are open to all high school students who wish to self-study and sit for an exam. Please note that AP exams are not part of our curriculum, nor is there an expectation from colleges that our students report AP scores.

Registration is a two-part process:

1.      Students/parents go to Scottsdale Prep’s Configio to select and pay for exam.

2.      Student logs-in to their College Board account and input the ‘active join code’ found on the Configio site when they paid for the exam.

The cost is $138.00 per exam by March 1st, 2024. Participants should bring non-mechanical number two pencils and a personal calculator to the exam.

Athletics

High School Girls Powderpuff Game: The Athletic department Powderpuff flag football game will be played on Friday, February 23rd. This is open to all high school girls. Each grade level has a captain who has been collecting names of interested students. This is a community event that will serve as a fundraiser for the senior trip. Each team member will have a t-shirt with the Powderpuff logo and their class color. To purchase the t-shirt, please use THIS Configio link.

Winter Sports Participation Fee: If you have not paid your athletic fee, please do so promptly:

Game Volunteers: We are always in need of parent volunteers to help run home games. Concession stand, entrance, and other volunteers help our events run smoothly. If interested, email gp_APO@glendalepreppo.org to join or learn more! You can also reach out to athletics@glendaleprep.org.
