A Note from the Headmaster

Hello Parents,

There is a difference between being blameless and perfect. One can be diligent and hardworking, and yet make a mistake. These distinctions are helpful in life and particularly helpful to communicate with our children. Our desire to see excellence and maturity in our children can easily be interpreted as unattainable by them because they are thinking we want to see no mistakes, no errors, and no misunderstanding…in other words, perfection. Another distinction I am working to keep in mind is about what I notice first and comment on when it comes to my children and subsequently our students. Do we focus on the positive, the growth, the improvement, or do we focus on the negative, the remaining areas of needed improvement, and our frustration with what we might perceive as slow growth? I found these words both convicting and encouraging:

“In the garden of life, do you look for the weeds to pull? Or do you spot the bud that is just about to burst open?

As a parent, do you first notice something in your child you would like to correct? Or do you look at the remarkable growth that is taking place each and every day?

As our children grow and change, there will be many wonderful developments to celebrate – before we need to mention something we would like to change.

What is something about your child that you are delighting in today?” -Karen Summerville

Have a wonderful weekend together,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Right Turn Drop Off Issues

We have been made aware of dangerous situations happening during drop off. There have been several near-miss accidents over the past few weeks.

Some of the cars traveling southbound on 83rd Ave have been seen forming two lanes while on 83rd Ave (blocking the bike lane and other southbound traffic) to enter the parking lot. This second lane is cutting off traffic to enter using lane 2 (see map) which is the lane for traffic coming north on 83rd. This is illegal and dangerous.

Please note on the map when entering the parking lot from 83rd Ave, there are only 2 lanes.

Lane 1 is the ONLY lane for vehicles traveling south on 83rd Ave to use to enter.
Lane 2 is the ONLY lane for vehicles traveling north on 83rd Ave to use to enter.

Please also note that left turns are not allowed when exiting the parking lot before 9 am. You MUST turn right.

Thank you for being respectful and safe in the parking lot and streets around the school. If you are cutoff by a vehicle making an illegal turn into the school, and you are safely able to get a picture of the vehicle, please email the picture to Mr. Navarrette at knavarrette@glendaleprep.org.
