Upcoming School Year Information

May 28, 2021 -

Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

The Glendale Prep Bookstore is scheduled for Monday, July 26th. All families will need to visit the GP Bookstore in order to receive textbooks, consumables, locker assignments, class schedules, etc. A link to sign up for a time will be sent in the coming weeks. Please see below for updated 2021-2022 school supply and book lists and other important school information.

2021-2022 Books
Consumables: Please pay for your Consumables PRIOR to your arrival at Bookstore on the payment portal. Consumables include Glendale Prep published workbooks and readers, field trip contributions, 9th-11th grade PSAT testing fees, etc. (Note that consumables are separate from the Textbook Deposit and Classics to Keep books.) Click HERE to pay for your child’s consumables on the payment portal. If any of the included costs present a hardship for your family, please contact the front office. Important note for Seniors: The Senior Contribution of $200 helps to pay for a portion of senior events such as senior dinner, senior retreat, graduation, senior panels, etc.

Classics to Keep:  At Glendale Prep, it has always been the tradition for students to develop a personal library of books; we call these books “Classics to Keep.” Your child’s class will utilize and annotate these classics during the upcoming school year and will need to acquire the set of “Classics to Keep” by the first day of school. These books will remain the students’ property. You may purchase the books through a vendor of your choice: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Abe Books, etc. You must acquire the exact version of each book that will be used in class. Click here to view and purchase the books needed and their corresponding ISBNs for each grade, which also has the items linked directly to Amazon. Titles with asterisks (*) indicate books that will be read in the first quarter. You can always find the book lists on our website at https://glendaleprep.greatheartsamerica.org/ under the “Academics” tab.

Textbooks: Textbooks will be issued to each student for use during the academic year at the Glendale Prep Bookstore. These books will remain the property of the school. A textbook deposit of $175 was collected at the time of registration and is refunded when the student graduates. All books issued must be returned in good condition at the end of the school year. A book that is not returned or returned in unusable condition, will result in a deduction of the student’s textbook deposit. All textbooks must have a paper textbook cover; this helps protect the book during the year. Please note: families who would like to purchase a home set of textbooks from a vendor of their choice may click here to view the textbook list; however, this is optional.

Student Supply Lists
Recommended on the first day of school.

  • Click here to view the General Supply List that includes items like pencils, paper, notebooks, etc.
  • Click here to view the Grade Supply List that includes items for specific grade-level subjects (sketchbook, calculator, notecards, etc.)

Lockers & Locks
All students will also be provided with a combination lock for their school locker. Students will be given their locker assignments and lock combinations at the Bookstore. Any lost or damaged locks will require a replacement fee of $5.

Junior & Senior Blazers
Upperclassmen have the privilege of wearing the Glendale Prep Blazer on campus and in class. Juniors are awarded their blazers at the Blazer Ceremony. The Parent Service Organization (PSO) will be coordinating blazer fittings and orders at the Bookstore. Parents should plan on attending the fitting with their Junior or Senior to ensure the proper fit as orders and sizing are final. The PSO is contributing $50 towards the purchase of every blazer, bringing the final cost to families down from $89.95 to only $39.95. Click here to order your Junior blazer now.

High School Retreat
Next year will be the first year Glendale Prep will have a High School Retreat at  Lost Canyon! Our goal is to have 100% participation for this first-ever high school retreat. We will not have high school classes during the days we are at Lost Canyon. High school students will depart by bus on Wednesday, September 1st, and will return to school on Friday, September 3rd. The retreat will include bonding over team-building activities, competition, leadership exercises, hiking, games, and loads of fun. The cost of the high school retreat includes transportation, room/board, activities, 5 meals, and 1 snack. We will also bring a work crew of alumni and/or parents who will help prepare, serve, and clean up after meals. If you or your graduate would like to come and work the retreat, free of charge, please let us know by emailing knavarrette@glendaleprep.org.

The retreat does require a financial commitment from families. The cost per student is as follows-

  • If paid by 5/31- $185
  • If paid by 6/30- $200
  • If paid by 7/30 or after- $215.

There is a discount of $25 for siblings. Click HERE to register and pay now.

Immunizations and Medications
Our school nurses will be at the Bookstore to collect any updated immunization records, allergy information and medications that your child will need for the school year. If your child needs updated immunizations, please make an appointment this summer with your pediatrician. If you have any questions, please email our school nurse, Sher-Lyn Gaza-Dela Cruz at sgaza-delacruz@archwayglendale.org.

Student Drivers
Junior and Senior student drivers will be sent an invitation soon to purchase a parking spot on the payment portal. Student drivers will also need to submit a copy of their driver’s license and proof of insurance at that time. There are a limited number of spaces, and spaces cannot be reserved without payment. Parking decals will be distributed at the Bookstore. If the decal is lost, a fee of $5 will incur to replace it. Sophomores will not be offered parking spots.

Student Safety and After School Supervision
At Glendale Prep, student safety and campus security remain our highest priority. To ensure a safe campus and environment, all students who are not involved in after-school extracurricular or athletic teams will not be permitted to stay on campus after 3:45 p.m. (The campus is open to students each school day beginning at 7:00 a.m.). Homework Club serves as a support to families who may require supervision after 3:45 p.m., or for parents who would like a quiet environment for their children to complete their homework every school day until 5:30 p.m.

Cost: $90/month for one child; $60/month for each additional child, plus a $25 registration fee per family per year. A monthly fee is payable through a recurring, automatic charge to your credit card on the first of each month. Registration will open on August 1st.

Lunches
Students may purchase hot lunches in advance or bring their lunch with them to school. Lunch drop-off is not permitted. Hot lunches are organized by the Glendale Prep Parent Service Organization (PSO). Information and details regarding hot lunch ordering will be sent via email in July.

School Uniforms
We ask that families purchase all uniform tops and skirts from our uniform providers below in order to ensure that the color and fit match throughout our student body. Please familiarize yourself and your student with the uniform policy. To view a comprehensive description, please click here. If the cost of the uniform presents a financial hardship for your family, please contact the school front office for assistance. Please remember that uniform shirts must have the GP Crest (not GP embroidered initials).

Athletics
If your student plans on participating in a sport next school year, please be sure your child has an updated physical. You can download the 2021-2022 physical forms here and take the forms to your child’s summer check-up to be completed. Please reach out to Athletic Director, Mr. Garrison, with any questions at jgarrison@glendaleprep.org.

New Student Orientation
As a reminder, New Student Orientation is Wednesday, August 4th from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. New students to Glendale Prep need to arrive at school no later than 8:30 a.m. Another email will be sent with further instructions to all new GP students. This is a student event only; parents will drop off and pick up new students for the event.

Volunteer Screening
If you would like to volunteer at the school or at any school event, you will need to go through the Raptor volunteer screening. We recommend that all GP parents volunteer for at least one event or committee each year as a way to stay involved and give back. The volunteer screening costs $5 and is good for one year. Screenings are valid for both Glendale Prep and Archway Glendale. Please click here to complete that now.
