A Note from the Headmaster
Hello Families, As we come to this season of Thanksgiving, please know that I am grateful for our community. I am thankful for each teacher, administrator, and staff member; I am thankful for you and your students. As I have reflected on gratitude, I wonder if there is something we can all agree upon despite any difference in belief. Apart from grace, we do not deserve the blessings in our lives. Whether you believe in divine grace, or circumstantial grace, or a particular situational grace that enables our talents to be displayed, there is often something outside of our sheer effort that brings us blessing. I think there is a connection between having a heart of gratitude and coming to realize we are blessed more than we deserve or earn. I am thankful for all of you and wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sincerely, From our Wonderful PSO Happy Thanksgiving! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys time with their families. Middle School and High School Concerts: As a reminder, the Middle School and High School Winter Concerts will be on 2 different days this year. We can really use your help with donations and set up for both events. Please click HERE [1]for the middle school sign-up and HERE [2] for the high school sign-up. We are grateful to all who can help. Please have all donations to the front office labeled for Middle School Concert by the morning of November 29th and for High School Concert December 6th. Thank you again for your assistance! Thank you to all the parents who donated donuts, bagels, cream cheese, cocoa, whipped cream, and apple cider for the Epic Cycle! It was a great event and your help was greatly appreciated! Lunches: Our system is open for weekly ordering, and you can (this seems easier) order for the whole month in one go. Our weekly ordering closes at 10:00 pm each Thursday evening. Please make sure to email gplunches@gmail.com [3] with questions regarding the lunch program. Our daily vendors are the following: Monday – Raising Canes Please click HERE [4]to place your lunch orders. Lost and Found Our lost and found is again overflowing with water bottles, lunch boxes, GP sweaters, and other personal items. We have made announcements for students to check for lost items and moved this rack to the courtyard. If you think your child is missing a school item please encourage him or her to check the rack on Monday. All remaining items will be donated on Tuesday. New: Section Parents (Opt Out) We are happy to announce that our new Section Parent Program is underway. We have assigned a parent to your child’s section. These parents will be sending out communications regarding upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. If you prefer we not share your email with your section parent, please respond to jhaley@glendaleprep.org [5] by Monday, November 27th. Student Drop-off and Pick-up Reminder Please remember students are not to be dropped-off or picked-up on Pinnacle Peak Rd. On Wednesday, a local sheriff stopped by and asked that we share with families that our neighbors have raised a concern about students exiting cars on Pinnacle Peak and littering. We were also informed they will be patrolling the area during busy times and will be ticketing. Please partner with us to be the best neighbors possible. Winter Concerts This year, our Winter Concerts will be on two separate nights, though both concerts will be held at Haven Church in Glendale (5902 W Cactus Rd, Glendale, AZ 85304), just as in the past. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the concert and must arrive at the church by 5:00 pm on the evening of their concert. We encourage all students and families to come to hear these fine performers share their musical gifts with you! Instrumental Concert All instrumental ensembles will present their Winter Concert on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:30 pm. The Instrumental Concert includes the 7th and 8th grade curricular music classes, Jazz Band and Orchestra. All students in middle school curricular music classes are required to participate in the concert as a portion of their music grade. Students who are participating in this concert received detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert. Please reach out to Mrs. Kratz (akratz@glendaleprep.org [6]) or Mrs. Bookhout (jbookhout@glendaleprep.org [7]) if you have questions about this concert. Vocal Concert All vocal ensembles will present their Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm. This concert will include the 9th and 10th grade music classes and all extra-curricular choirs. All students in high school curricular music classes are required to participate in the concert as a portion of their music grade. If your students are participating in the concert, they received detailed information from their teacher/director about the concert. Please reach out to Dr. Bookhout (tbookhout@glendaleprep.org [8]) if you have questions about this concert. Gentlemen: Hair Guidelines GP gentlemen, please take time over this holiday break to ensure your hair is within dress code guidelines, “Hair must be above the top of the shirt collar. Hair should be styled so that it does not fall below the eyebrows or past the midpoint of the ear. Hair must be natural looking and conservative in its color and cut (no unnatural streaking/highlighting, no artificial jet black coloring, and no unnatural colors).” College Counseling PSAT SCORES are available and can be viewed on a student’s personal College Board [9] account. If a student provided their mobile number during the PSAT exam set up, they will receive a text message with access to the BigFuture School mobile app [10] where they can also view their score. A PRACTICE ACT will be held on Saturday, December 2nd, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Glendale Prep. After taking the test, students will receive a score report; a College Counselor will compare their ACT score with their estimated SAT score (derived from your child’s October PSAT score) to help determine if your student has an affinity toward one test over the other (ACT vs. SAT). If you are interested, please sign up HERE [11]. The cost is $10.00. Please bring cash to the practice test on December 2nd. The deadline to register is Thursday, November 30th at 5:00 pm. Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will take place at Scottsdale Prep in the spring and are open to all high school students who wish to self-study and sit for an exam. Please note that AP exams are not part of our curriculum, nor is there an expectation from colleges that our students report AP scores. Registration is a two-part process: 1. Students/parents go to Scottsdale Prep’s Configio [12] to select and pay for exam. 2. Student logs-in to their College Board [13]account and input the ‘active join code’ found on the Configio site when they paid for the exam. The cost is $138.00 per exam by March 1st, 2024. Participants should bring non-mechanical number two pencils and a personal calculator to the exam.
