Please be sure you have paid for your student’s Consumables [1] on our portal before you arrive for a quick and easy experience at Bookstore. Juniors and Seniors: If you would like your student to park on campus, please make sure you have all parking documents filled out and emailed to Mrs. Mooberry [4] before Bookstore. Please bring any medication or immunization forms for the school nurse. Reach out to Mrs. Gaza-Dela Cruz [5] with any questions. House System We are very excited to resurrect the various activities connected to our House System. All students are placed in a House to compete for the annual Griffin House Cup. The vision for our House system is to provide students time away from the academic setting to build relationships together, have leisurely discussion, and participate in friendly competition. While each student and teacher belong to a house, we are all Griffins! The school day schedule will be adjusted on specific days to allow for a House meeting/assembly at the end of the day prior to dismissal. We have seven House days set and will have a number of competitions throughout the school year. Update on Extra-Curriculars It is our joy to share some information about our extracurricular activities for the coming year, and we are especially pleased to say it is not about their discontinuation or COVID-19 protocols! Instead, it is some clarification about their leadership and operation to ensure we continue to offer genuinely enriching opportunities to each of our students. While Glendale Prep does not require participation in extra-curricular activities, it has become clear students are happier and more successful if they are involved in them. This is the reason we continue to offer them and run them. They provide creative and physical outlets that help build a well-balanced life. Students also learn gratitude through teamwork, joy in serving, and fortitude through school spirit. As a measure of accountability to each student and their families, the Academy does not permit student-led extracurricular groups. Rather, the Academy offers a host of options crafted and executed by the school to ensure the most meaningful opportunities consistent with the school’s mission for student involvement, enrichment, and success. Below is a summary of our extracurricular activities going forward.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to work closely with the teachers and administration in support of the superb extra-curricular offerings for students. As always, the safety of students is paramount as is the wise management of every activity in which they are engaged. For all extracurricular activities, students should be picked up at the time the extracurricular activity ends. Siblings who are not registered in extracurricular activities are not allowed to be on campus during the extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are a privilege, not a right, and students can be suspended from extracurricular activities for academic or behavioral reasons at any time by decision of the coach, athletic director, or school administration. To be eligible for extracurricular activities at the Academy, the student must maintain passing grades in all subjects and must have displayed good behavior in pursuit of virtue. If a student fails any course in a quarter, they may be suspended from all Academy extracurricular activities for the following quarter. If you have any questions on this matter, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Yost (myost@glendaleprep.org [6]), who will be overseeing extracurricular activities. High School Retreat, September 1st-3rd We are very excited to take our high school students and teachers to the Lost Canyon Camp in Williams, Arizona, in early September. So far, nearly 200 students have signed up and paid. If you have not done so already, please sign up your high school student(s) via our payment portal for 21-22 HS Retreat [7]so we have total numbers to finalize our plans. We will spend time at the Retreat bonding over team-building activities, leadership exercises, games during free-time, glow in the dark capture the flag, skits, karaoke, and so much more while enjoying tasty meals prepared by GP parents and alumni! There will be no on-campus classes for High School students the days we are at the Retreat. Traffic, Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures We will be sending our procedures for drop off and pick up in the next week or so right before the first day, so you can review and follow accordingly. |
