A Note From Headmaster

Greetings,

We live in an age where we want to see the data. We place great confidence in data as it seems to clear up confusion and can easily settle disputes. Minimally, data helps to confirm what we may have been wondering or hypothesizing. Here is some data regarding the continued dedication of our teachers (and administration and staff) who are committed to providing onsite instruction, serving our online students, and giving up their prep. periods to cover classes, so quarantined teachers can instruct from home. In the first four weeks of Semester II, here is the data:

  • 30 teachers have subbed a total of 134 hours, not including covering duties
  • 6  administration and staff have subbed for a total of 19 hours

Our teachers very much deserve these two off-campus asynchronous days where they can dedicate time and energy to lesson planning, grading, and rest. We are blessed to have such wonderful and caring individuals serving our children. Your continued support and encouragement are always welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for continuing to make our community one of love and goodwill.

Sincerely,

Mr. Navarrette

COVID Prevention
Please keep students home at the onset of anyone living in the home exhibiting COVID like symptoms. This will help keep teachers and students in class and our campus running.

Call or email the attendance line, and students will be marked COVID Quarantine Excused Absence as long as details are left in the message so the office can excuse the absence. Email attendance@glendaleprep.org [8] or call 623-889-0822 ext. 4.

Tax Credit
Please be sure to contribute your tax credit BEFORE you file your taxes. Simply give up to $400 to the Arizona State Public School Tax Credit Program, then deduct 100% off your Arizona taxes! That means you get every dollar back with no money out of your pocket! Then, ask your family and friends to do the same. EVERY Arizona taxpayer that participates will receive their contribution back as a dollar-for-dollar credit on their state tax liability. Plus, once we reach our tax credit goal, GP can use your tax dollars towards COVID-19 related expenses. This is great news because Glendale Prep has spent $435 per student on COVID-19 related expenses, while only receiving $87.34 per student in emergency government support. Now, you can make a difference and impact our school! Please join us in supporting our students and teachers by contributing your Arizona Public School Tax Credit to Glendale Prep. The deadline to give your tax credit and claim it on your 2020 tax bill is April 15th, 2021. Thank you for being part of something great!

Great Hearts Telethon

Great Hearts is seeking an individual/couple to represent our academy on the 2021 Great Hearts Telethon Committee. The Great Hearts Telethon raises funds to benefit the Teacher Excellence Fund, which is distributed to our faculty as bonus compensation on an annual basis. Glendale Prep received $20,481 in December 2020 from this initiative. The Telethon will take place on September 25th and a full description of the position can be found here [9]. For more information about the Teacher Excellence Fund, please contact Cathy Sparks at csparks@glendaleprep.org [10].

College Counseling

·      GREAT HEARTS COLLEGE SYMPOSIUM: Available to current 10th and 11th graders; this event is taking place virtually on Saturday, February 20, 2021, from 9:00 a.m.-noon. This is a terrific opportunity to interact with over 60 confirmed colleges and universities attending the virtual college fair. Parents and students are encouraged to attend. You must pre-register to attend. See the FLYER [11]  for details on how to RSVP and pre-register.

·      COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOPS: Davidson College is hosting several informative sessions about the college application process from February 6-13, 2021. Junior students and parents are encouraged to follow this LINK [12] to view session topics and register. These topics are general enough to apply to students looking at various colleges.

·      JUNIORS:  College 101 sessions will take place on our early release days, February 5th and February 19th, at 1:00 p.m. Plan to join your classmates via Zoom for these sessions containing information necessary for all students. Remember February 19th, offers students the opportunity to learn more about each of our three in-state public universities. Students are required to attend at least one session. You can locate the Zoom link in the College Counseling Google Classroom on the day of the event.

·      COLLEGE COUNSELING WEBSITE: This webpage [13] can be accessed through the Glendale Prep main website [14] and is a good resource for up-to-date information on testing schedules, summer pre-college programs, and college counseling events.
