A Note From Headmaster

Greetings,

There is a saying, “The little things matter”. This is true and is generally understood as referencing the small daily discipline we should all put into practice. I would guess we all agree that we want our children to see that the little things matter. I want to take this saying and note its value when it comes to relationships. The little things matter when it comes to breaking away from the routine and practice academic discipline to simply be together. This last Friday, we had a Senior Mini-Retreat on campus. Our seniors came ready to spend time together, compete in their Houses, and also took a moment to write letters to our younger students. Mrs. LeTrent and Mr. Maratea, along with so many teachers, put on an abbreviated Field Day, and the competition was fierce. Mrs. Park helped guide the seniors to personalize important letters to 6th grade (it is a surprise, so please keep them confidential for now) that will be delivered soon. It was wonderful to see our seniors cherish this time together, away from the daily routine. The little things matter indeed.

Have a nice weekend,

Mr. Navarrette

Re-Enrollment is next week! This will be the time to indicate your intent to return to Glendale Prep and secure your child’s seat for the 2021-2022 school year. Emails for current 6th-11th graders will be sent out next week from the Great Hearts’ lead office.

Re-Enrollment will be an easy two-step process:
1. Update the online information forms on a laptop or computer (a smartphone will not work) using the link in the Great Hearts email.
2. Scan one proof of AZ residency that matches the address on the information form (driver’s license, water bill, or electric bill are ideal) and email it to re-enrollment@glendaleprep.org [13].

Keep an eye out for the email with the link. We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year together!

FLASH SALE: LAST CHANCE!

Great Hearts Virtual Career Fair
On March 1st and 2nd, the Great Hearts Talent Team will be hosting our annual career fair – virtually. The GH Virtual Career Fair will include subject-specific webinars discussing the elements and philosophies of classical education that have shaped our model within public charter schools. Candidates can also learn about Professional Development within Great Hearts, valued and essential Special Education opportunities, and how to become a teacher at our academies in Arizona and Texas.  Additionally, each candidate will have the unique opportunity to speak one-on-one with Headmasters specific to their region, location, and interests.

When: AZ – March 1st – 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm (MST)
TX – March 2nd – 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm (CST)

For questions, contact: Careers@greatheartsamerica.org [16] or RBaumann@greatheartsamerica.org [17].

Volunteers
The teachers, students, and staff greatly appreciate the time volunteers are willing to share. Volunteering allows you to connect to our community and make it a better place. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference to the lives of our students and teachers.

As you might know, we partnered with Raptor Technologies to screen our volunteers and visitors on campus. A volunteer screen is more in-depth than a visitor screen as visitors are always with a staff member when on campus. Therefore, if you volunteer or plan on volunteering and have not submitted a volunteer application, please do that now here: complete and submit a volunteer application [18]. Upon approval, you will receive instructions on the next steps.

If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Hayakawa [19].

Uniforms
As a reminder, khaki uniform shorts may be worn upon our return from Spring Break on Monday, March 22nd, until the end of the school year. Shorts should go to just above the knee but not below, and should not be excessively tight or loose-fitting. White, ankle-high socks may be worn with shorts.

COVID Prevention
Please keep students home at the onset of anyone living in the home exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. This will help keep teachers and students in class and our campus running.

Call or email the attendance line, and students will be marked COVID Quarantine Excused Absence as long as details are left in the message so the office can excuse the absence. Email attendance@glendaleprep.org [20] or call 623-889-0822 ext. 4.

TAX CREDIT

Working on your taxes this weekend? Don’t forget to subtract up to $400 from your Arizona State tax bill. For example, if you discover you owe the State of Arizona a check for $750…don’t write a check for $750.  Instead, write Arizona a check for $350 and write a second check to Glendale Prep for $400 (or click on the link below to use your credit card). You can choose how your tax dollars are spent. Thank you, Arizona!

If you have yet to make your Tax Credit contribution to Glendale Prep, you have until April 15, 2021, to make this important contribution to our school and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit off your Arizona State tax bill. For questions contact Cathy Sparks at 602.770.7552 or csparks@glendaleprep.org [21]. Thank you for supporting our school!

Quarter 3 Deficiency Notices
If your student receives a Deficiency Notice, please talk it over with your child so a plan of action can be put into place for future success. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers to follow up with a plan to improve. Teachers are always available to help students during tutoring hours [23].

College Counseling

·      COLLEGE COUNSELING CONFERENCES FOR JUNIORS: Conferences will take place Wednesday, March 10th, and Thursday, March 11th, 2021, from 3:20 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Each junior and at least one parent are encouraged to schedule a 15-minute conference with the College Counselors. This short conference will address initial college lists and in-state public university core 16 GPA. Conference day and time can be reserved HERE [24]
