A Note From Headmaster

Greetings Parents,

We occasionally have teaching candidates come and visit our campus. These visits usually last four to five hours and include the following: a school tour, interview, discussion of what we love at GP, classroom observations, a teaching demonstration and debrief, as well as time with faculty. This is a full day, and while I am certainly working to discern if the candidate will be a good fit for our community, what becomes so apparent with each visit is the welcoming spirit and care our students have for the candidates. This, of course, has an effect on the candidates which naturally leads them to share a candid assessment of our school, our students, and teachers. It is important from time to time for me to hear from an outside perspective what he or she thinks of our school.

I want to share a few anecdotes from one recent candidate visit:

The students personally thanked the candidate after her teaching demonstration, sharing their enjoyment and appreciation, while she was exiting by wishing her a good day.

After observing classes, this candidate shared this, “I have never seen so many students raise their hands; the teacher barely talked in the class. The students were so engaged; it was amazing…These students are so joyful and well-behaved”.

I remember my visit to GP years ago; it had a profound effect on me. It was the joy in the students, their welcoming and polite character, along with the teachers’ dedication that won me over. I saw it years ago, and I saw it this week.

Parents, thank you for investing your time and love by instilling character in your children. It is a joy to be with your children every day.

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster
